Just had a thought and wanted to see what everyone thought. If I have a lee universal decapping die and the expander balls for each caliber I load, can I put the expander ball in the decapping die and have essentially a
neck sizing die without buying anything new. I have no idea if this will work, but it seems plausible. What are your thoughts? Am I off my rocker?

It will not work. The primary purpose of sizing is squeezing. What you're proposing would have no way of accomplishing that.

Wouldn't work. You need to add a collet. Then it will work. If you can figure out how to do that.

Not off your rocker though. Maybe slightly tipping out of it, but not off completely.
I have even tried neck sizing without a decapping pin! So if you are, then I guess you can put me in the same category. (didn't work real well, for all curious)

m3mh0g, you are de-capping first, the de-capping die dies not have case body support, the seating die does not have case body support. The tool that does not exist that you describe is a neck sizer die, the neck sizer die reduces the diameter of the neck and removes the primer and sizes the neck when the neck sizer ball/plug is pulled through the neck when the ram is lowered.

There are die parts that can be modified for other purposes or modified to work more effectively for specific purposes.

I have dies that are universal as in a die that is designed to do a specific job but because of design works for unintended purposes.
