You need a lower parts kit. I'd just build the lower and order the upper. Do you have a stripped lower receiver?

There are some really good YouTube videos available that will guide you, step-by-step, through the whole process. I had never assembled a lower, but by sitting in front of the computer, it was easy. I would run the video, hit the "pause" button, assemble the part, hit "run", hit "pause", assemble, etc, etc. Because I had never done it, it took about 45 minutes.

You probably dont have a whole lot of options it this moment in history-buy what you can find. I assembled a lower a week ago and it is a tedious pain in the arse- takes about 1 hour if you are good. After loosing a couple springs and buying new ones I was better off buying an assembled lower. LPKs are going for $70+ right now.

this was not my experience on my first lower build, at all

put my laptop on my workbench and followed along with a tutorial on AR15.com

took maybe 30 minutes. no flying springs. no cussing. very simple.

It took me 2 months to get my parts together back in March-May of 2012...that was MONTHS before the election buying started...and now we have this panic.

Not much is in stock ANYWHERE

You can buy them all together in a nice and nifty little package. The Lower Parts Kit mentioned above. Another part you may need is a time machine. Go back a few weeks before people FLIPPED and you will have more options at better prices.

I have the lower receiver. Great link RC! Thanks! I am in no rush to put one together I have one - stag model 3 - this is more something I wanted to do so I can say I know how. I am looking to build a longer range platform, a bull barrel around 20" if anyone can recommend anything in particular that would be helpful. I am going to pick up a lower parts kit but I also need a buffer tube and stock.

Ok here are the parts I bought back in March-May

-Lower receiver

-lower parts kit (includes trigger/hammer, retention pins for trigger and hammer, trigger spring, hammer spring, magazine catch, magazine catch spring, magazine release button. pivot pin, pivot pin detent and spring, takedown pin, takedown pin detent and sprint, safety, safety detent and spring, bolt catch, bolt catch spring, bolt catch plunger, bolt catch roll pin, buffer retainer and buffer retainer spring, trigger guard, trigger guard roll pin, pistol grip and screw.)

-receiver extension tube (also called buffer tube) If you want a precision AR, I suggest one for a rifle stock

-Stock...again a fixed rifle stock for precision

-Buffer spring (depends on what type of receiver extension tube)

-Buffer (see note above)

-IF you get a carbine extension and stock, you will need a lock (castle) nut and a locking plate

-upper receiver (try to get one already assembled)

-If you don't get one already assembled, you may need the forward assist assembly, (this includes a bunch of smaller parts....try to buy it as a unit)

-you may need a dust cover....again buy it as a unit

-Charging handle

-gas tube

-gas block (precision means low profile to me)

-free float hand guard for a precision rifle

-If the hand guard doesn't come with it, you will need a barrel nut

-If your barrel is threaded, a thread protector, flash suppressor or compensator
