Lightweight profile barrel at 14.5" + pinned flash hider, lightweight rifle length FF rail, Aimpoint Micro, MBUS, 2-Cell Surefire, simple VLTOR Modstock. It's ready to go with less weight than most people's scoped, Gov't profiled (or M4 Profiled) carbines with needlessly heavy rails, unnecessary bipods, etc. Too many people buy an M4 type carbine and try to turn it into a Sniper rifle. That ain't what it's for.

Just an A2 clone. I might build a carbine eventually, but it suits my needs just fine.

Mine is a BCM 16" carbine with the following:
-Geissele SSA trigger
-H2 buffer
-Knight's RAS rail system
-Aimpoint CompM2
SureFire M951 w/ Malkoff M61 LED upgrade + SR-05 switch
-A.R.M.S. #40-L rear BUIS

I wanted a rifle like the one I was issued, and I made it a little better with a MagPul stock and Geissele trigger. Shoots 2 MOA or slightly under (on a good day) with Lake City "green tip" and I'm extremely pleased with this set-up. My other rifle will be a Noveske 14.5" Lo-Pro which I don't have pictures of as it is not yet complete (still needs a lower and optic).

I try to keep my AR:s fairly stock. Most of the semi autos are A1:s and A2:s with nothing more than a handle mount scope, if that, but the ones I've customized externally are something like...

11½" "Commando", suppressor, Nikon Monarch 3-9x40 / Holosight (interchangeable)
10½" 9mm, suppressor, Aimpoint
20" dedicated .22 A1, suppressor, 3x30 scope
16" flat top bull barrel, A1 lower range gun, various scopes
20" pencil barrel A1 + M203
20" R-25 .308, Meopta 4-12x50 scope, Harris bipod

No rails, no flashlights, no lasers, no tacticool. Form follows function.

I guess my platform is empty. Never felt the need for bulbous geegaws and doohickies sticking out at all angles. To me the advantage of the AR15 was that it was light and compact. I prefer to keep things simple. I never even missed having the forward assist.

That is just awesome! I am with you; no gimcrack on my AR's. Mine are all A2's, but I would love to build up an A1 like that.

Nice to see all the A1's in this thread. My A1 is based on a early Bushmaster and has a Colt 4X scope. I recently found a usgi three prong and replaced the dpms copy I had on it.



Another Bushmaster M4gery, I built this when YHM started producing their hand guards, flash hiders and fold down FSB's. RE and stock is a Vltor Emod and it has a Nikon M223 with Matech buis. Pearce 1911 grip.



This is for distant steel in 6.5G. I started with a Overwatch 24" barrel and upper. Original built with a AP lower and RRA two stage, I recently added a Alexander Arms lower and ArmaLite two stage lpk, changed the Vltor A5 to a UBR. Topped off with a 6.5-20X50 Vortex Viper.



Long range with power, Noveske N6 20" upper on a ArmaLite AR-10B lower. PRS stock, SWS hand guard, and sets on Atlas legs. I enjoy shooting this more than anything in the house.



More AR's...this is a 16" A3 upper on a AP lower, UBR, YHM, LMT sights with a PA micro on a ADM QD mount.




My iron sight shooter, a dpms mini sass bull barrel in a A2, custom lower with ArmaLite guts. The barrel is 1-8, very heavy and very accurate...it was very cheap. Apex mid length hand guard.




More parts came in yesterday, a fail zero BCG and CORE15 charging handle for a new PSA 16" upper, it well get a AP lower that has a LMT M4 stock. Probably a Aimpoint.

Rock River 16" midlength flattop, chrome lined Wilson heavy profile barrel with 5.56mm chamber, Eotech 516 optic, Magpul MBUS rear sight, Vickers style sling from Blue Force. The gas key screws and castle nut had to be staked after I got it because Rock River only made a token effort at the former and didn't bother with the latter.

FWIW, on terminology, the "platform" is the underlying design, not an individual rifle. One can correctly speak of the "AR-15 platform" or the "Remington 700 platform" but an individual rifle is a rifle, not a platform.
