Other than the fact that it weighs a ton (which I know is good for shooting - not so good for moving it into place), I’m pretty happy with the results. I used pressure-treated 2”x6” for the framing and Trex decking for the top. (It’s my “go to” material for exterior projects!). I used 2 1/2” GRK fasteners — so it’s solid.
Great bench, you may want to go a step farther. You may want to seal the underneeth with some thing like a screen or boards, to keep the wasps from building a nest under the bench. Or one day you may be shooting , and be greeded by some wasps. Ask me how I know.
Well, it took me longer than I had planned but I finally got my backstop to a point where I could shoot today. I took the opportunity to sight in my Ruger GSR .308 for hunting season. The bench worked great (and so did the gun!).
I have a little more dirt to move (about 6 yards done today), then i should be set...then to gt the other three ready for the season!
Good looking bench project. You might think about counter sinking those platform screws or lining the top either permantly or temporarily while using, in case you want to lay a gun on it outside of the sled. Hate to see a screw head dig into one of your guns.
