I just got this build in the mail today from a fellow that took a Victorinox Ranger and replaced the corkscrew with a Phillips for me. I'll test it this weekend, but my initial impressions are positive. :)

If this works out I have a donor with the inline finer Phillips I will have him fit in for a handy pocket tool. ;)

I used to like the corkscrew. I calibrated meters at natural gas wells and one adjustment screw was sunk down into the top of the meter. Bugs would fill it with bits of leaves for a nest and I'd corkscrew that stuff out. Easy. :)

I carried this SAK for years

but hated the phillips screw driver on the back of the knife. You can only make quarter to half turns because you don't have a swivel joint holding your wrist to your fore arm bones.

Now I got to go buy a modeler, that would be perfect for a lot of the every day things I do at the gun store. And then I got to replace the cork screw.!:eek: More money
So that will delay the Ferrari purchase again.:neener:

I too use the corkscrew for its intended purpose. I carry a ranger. My perfect SAK would be a ranger, with Alox scales, with the awl placed like on the farmer and US knife, and a bail like on an US knife. Or an US knife so equipped. Like the old song, I can dream, can't I?

ETA: I regularly use everything on that knife, the Leatherman Wave II, that is also EDC, could functionally be replaced by a set of good pliers, save for that I like redundancy in my most used stuff. I without exception reach for the SAK, unless I need pliers.

They don't make officer model anymore. All that one lacked to be the perfect SAK was losing parcel carrier - useless - for a phillips head.

The Modeler was the first SAK I bought my son. It was an aptly named knife for him because it used it while making plastic model airplanes.
 
I have an older (pre-parcel hook) Huntsman that I got when I was 12. At that age, I didn't see a use for a corkscrew, either. Then, I found one. It is the best thing ever for turning into a knotted shoelace, and stretching it to untie it. That knife has seen more use than all of my others combined.
