Update from Charles Daly on the BUL M5. Or should I say the Kimber Utra Ten II knockoff.

The M-5 Government,
Commander and IPSC models
will soon be available with the
compact Ultra-X due in late 2003.
These high-tech polymer framed 1911 pistols
are manufactured by BUL Transmark in Israel to
the highest standard of precision and quality you've
come to expect from Charles Daly®. Using state-of-
the-art production techniques every gun is tested
for function, accuracy and reliability. The M-5
stainless steel hi-swept grip safeties are an advanced
design lowering the pistol deeper into your hand,
reducing muzzle flip and felt recoil. The raised contact
pad with serrations insures a full activation and sure grip every time. With a new rounded trigger-guard, the Daly M-5 is compatible with a wide range of holsters and accessories.

Available in .45 ACP and 40 S&W, Suggested retail for the M-5 starts at $679.00. Look for the Daly M-5 at a dealer near you in mid July.

Seems since Charles Daly put their name on it the price went from $456 to $679.

Heck, might as well get the Kimber. Its only $10 bucks more

From what i understand...BUL of Isreal is the company manufacturing the polymer frames for the Kimber Ultra ten II...

I could however be wrong.

Lennyjoe, when were they sold for $459? I know if they said kimber on them they never were that price. Also if suggested retail is $679 on a daly you probably would be looking at about $600. I thought when they were sold as kimbers the price was also around $600. But look at kimber customs, the price of them has gone up about $100 over the last few years at least around here. For what it is worth I have a bul impact(cz clone). It is kinda of funny looking but it is well made and it shoots really good. Mark

www.lisc.net had them listed under EAA for the $456 price range. I called them and they are no longer offering the BUL line. I went to BUL transmark webite and they are showing Charles Daly as the supplier now.

Funny, they just put thier name on the slide and up the price.

BUL did make the Kimber lowers in the past. Kimber just supplied the uppers and a couple of other changes and put a price tag of $689. Thats the lowest I have found the Pro Carry Ten II line that I wanted. BUL showed it as the Commander.

If CD is gonna still charge $600 for it I might as well just go with the Kimber one.

Has Charles Daly...

Given up on the "jungle shop" method of putting their pistols together?

I bought one new 3 years ago ... a two-tone .45 with ambidextrous safety. Sharp looking gun...but FTFs galore, even with factory ball. The slide rattled.

The fancy looking skeletonized trigger was heavy, so I tried to take it down for a look at the sear. I couldn't get past the safety. It seems that when the gun was put together, the ambidextrous safety connection point was hammered together (perhaps by using pliers & a hammer).

Sold it.

Now, I'm wondering if Charles Daly (a big name in shotguns long ago) has finally cleaned up their QC act.

Sorry, but the "street" price will likely be the same as the Kimber, so it is a no-brainer. Kimber has the warranty support and reputation to protect. They'll make it right if there are any problems. If the gun was in the $350-400 range, I might be willing to tinker with it a little to get it right. For $600 or more, it'd better be right when it comes out of the box.

If I cant find a BUL M5 anywhere I am gonna get the Kimber.

Just trips me out when Charles Daly puts thier name on the side and ups the price like that.

Lennyjoe, are you sure that EAA every imported Buls. I heard that they were going to but it fell through, maybe they were trying to get them cheaper than bul was willing to sell them for. I remember reading when they first came out a company in Los Angeles was importing them. You know sometimes gunshops list guns and it never happens. I know there were gunshops on the web that were taking orders for HS2000's in 40 cal for around $300 then it never happened. Next thing you know springfield has Xd 40's. Mark

I have a Bul framed Kimber. It is one heck of a gun.

I was hoping that the Dalys were going to be cheaper. I was looking forward to having a twin, and a compact version.

Plus I hate their huge name on the side. How tacky is that?
