I was gonna order a drum, but pretty much everyone's either out of them or on backorder, so I've decided to just order some more mags instead.

How good are the polymer Bulgarian 30 and 40 round mags with a picture of a bullet on the body compared to used steel Romanian mags? I've got 2 30rd and 2 40rd. Romanian steel mags, and have never had a problem with them, but they're heavy. I've got one polymer Bulgarian mag, but I've only put 30 rounds through it, so I don't know about the reliability.

I'm mainly trying to stock up for the next ban/SHTF. I don't shoot very often, and when I do, it's not in dusty/dirty/etc. environments. The Bulgarian and Romanians are about the same price through Cope's Distributing, so that's not a factor. I'd also rather have 40rds than 30, but 30's enough if they're more reliable.

So which kind of mags should I get if I want cheap, reliable mags? Thanks.

Those "bullet" mags are made in Bulgaria for commercial use. They are not made by the military contractor.

One gets what one pays for.

One can never go wrong with surplus steel AK mags.

Also keep in mind that 40 round mags are long and will keep you in a higher prone position, if you go that way.

I've had better results with the Bulgarian waffle mags. I've noticed that when my steel mags get dents I tend to have an occasional feeding problem with the mag, the Bulgarian polymer waffle mags just tend to stand up to a beating better.

+1 for the Bulgarian waffle mags. They're light, they work, they hold up, and they don't rust. I have 10,20,30 and 40 round steel mags, and i'm happy to have 'em, but my favorites are my Bulgy waffles. They're running around $20 or so at Sportsmansguide.I have them throw another one in almost everytime i order something from those geniuses.
Also, though i've never owned any, the bullet or slab sided mags are not as well spoken of, here or on other AK forums, but you can't find a bad word anywhere about the waffles. You do the math.:D

It's your choice but they are very sturdy mags even if they are plastic.
They were good enough for the former Warsaw Pact forces during the cold war.

I hope this is referencing the Bulgarian waffle mags and not the 'bullet mags' in the OP.
