Dumb question for you guys. I have a few lbs of h335 and h322 laying around from when i first started reloading 3yrs ago and only wanted to try 1-2 powders. Neither powder would hold a candle to benchmark and my 55gr v max in my 223rem 1-9 twist bolt action so i stocked up on benchmark 3lbs for about $30.

Will a different bullet say a 50gr or 53gr or even different type say fmj, sp, nosler shoot bad with these powders like the v max did or could i get a good load with a different bullet?

i guess what I'm asking is it possible for one bullet to shoot horrible with say h335 and h322 and a different bullet shoot great? I don't want to buy more bullets if i don't have to.

Every combination is different. I would say it might be possible that you could hit on something. You may not. There are a lot of folks using H335 and H322 for .223 and 55gr so obviously they like it for either availability or versatility or something. Sometimes your most accurate load may not be where you want to be. It may vary over a temp spread where you may want to use something different. Lots of manuals list a hunting load and accuracy load for these reasons.

I'd pick up some 55gr ball and load 'em mid range for CQ and or off hand drills.

I went through the whole Hornady manual to their max and almost to hodgdons max for each powder and still cant get the same 5 holes touching as benchmark. did my 5 shot loads by .3gr also just to make sure i didn't miss a good mark. I'm just off the lands now so wondering if seating depth would do anything for h335 and h322.

In my case I load for an AR. I do use H335 for 55gr. I have 2 loads that are under 1/2 inch @ 50 yards, and just under an inch at 100 if I do my part. From a 16" carbine that seems really good to me. I can't do it every day. I'm way off the lands, I think it is impossible to chase the lands with an AR, at least mine if I want to use the mag. If you find a load to work with your bolt, and it sounds like you have, you are good to go. Maybe buy an AR and use up the H335 :)

Sometimes even a change in primer can really change how a certain powder works.
i do have a couple 100pc packs of BR and cci 400 laying around. Reloadron told me to try Mag primers and with h335 with gets me decent groups the mag primers shrunk them compared to cci400 and the same with benchmark. Ill try the others again just to make sure.

H335 and H-322 are both good powders, and work well in .223 in general, but your gun likes Benchmark and those bullets, just the way it is sometimes.
I'm perfectly fine with the benchmark loads. just trying to figure out a way to use up 2-3lbs of h335 and 2lbs of h322. I got them on clearance when a gander mountain was going out of business. I guess i should have left them there. :)
was just hoping i could switch up bullets or something and maybe use it up but i don't like plinking popcans. :)

Nosler #4 says that H335 was the most accurate powder tested in 223 with the 55 gr ballistic tip.

If I'm not mistaken H335 was designed for the AR (or was used for it).
I use it in mine with 55gr and 62gr with a 1:7 twist 16" barrel.

I'm not familiar with bolt guns but it seems like you have a powder your gun doesn't like with that bullet.

Since you don't plink is there anyone you know who uses H335 that could use it that trusts you? That would be what I'd do first if I were you.

As for the H322 I'm not familiar with the powder so others can advise better. But it seems finding it a home also would be a good option.

Yep. It just means your rifle doesn't like the H's for some reason. Loads of H335 and Benchmark are identical and velocities are very close to it, out of a 1 in 12, 24" barrel. Their burn rates are #'s 81(BM) and 82(335).
Your velocities will be different due to the twist. And that matters.
Three grains or even 5 doesn't make much difference. Your rifle just likes the 55 with Benchmark. Try a 69 grain bullet.

The best, most honest reply is MAYBE.
Every barrel is different, even 2 that come off the line consecutively.
So the only way to answer is to try.

I probably have 5 or 6 powders that I tried a a few grains worth.
The rest sits. But I can tell you, in my gun, X-powder is phooey!
And I can tell you, in my S&W Model 10, TiteGroup & 125 gr plated bullets make me look like a genuine marksman.
(boy, I got them fooled - lol)

You could try trading it off or selling it. Use the buy sell reloading components in the forum and specify face to face. You do have to list your state and you could be more specific. Just ask to trade for primers and propellant that you are currently using in something. I do a lot of load development with new calibers/loads all the time so having 10 or so 1/2 full containers of assorted propellants is to me a bonus.;)You never know with that reloading bug, there just might just be a different rifle caliber that will use them up in your near future as well.:D
