Bullet Choice for AR

That depends on the gun. None of my 5.56s like that bullet.
I tried multiple powders and seating depths. Gave up and went to a 77 SMK and haven't looked back. Mine are 1-8 and 1-9 twist. I know others that can't stabilize a 77. So I try to keep an open mind.
My 9 twist 20" & 7 twist 20" both love it.

I also recommended a 62grn bullet. Hornady makes (or made...) a 62grn BTHP bullet for generic (bulk) sale... I got mine at Natchez, I believe. Excellent bullet that doesn't break the bank. It does well in all of my AR barrels.

Actually, that bullet is offered by Mid-South Shooters Supply exclusively, when it is available.

69SMK will stabilize in a 1:9” 16” 223, no sweat. It’s a stubby little bullet, designed with a short ogive to fit stanag mags. The 69SMK + Varget is a winning combination.

For 300yrd games only, I’m still driven to chase a flat base though, relatively light to middle weight bullet like the 55 Berger Flat Base Target. These two would have my first attempts.

I’m using a 1/7 twist 20” barrel but I’ve had good results from Barnes 52 grain Match Burners and H335 started with CCI 400 SRP. They shoot under 1.5 MOA using peep sights on my A4gery. I have not shot them to 300 yet. I think the furthest is 150 yards. I usually don’t go past 100 with that rifle though.
