I've been wondering what kind of paint is used on bullet tips, and where i can get it. I have recently come across some M855 bullets for reloading, and the green tip has worn off on a few of them and is almost gone a a fair amount of them. I would like to freshen up the paint so that i can easily tell which bullets are which. Thanks for your help

Welcome to the forum!

Model paint works, but you may have to thin it some. Just dip the tips of the bullets, but you'll need to make something that will hold them upside down until the paint dries. I did a few many, many years ago, and I stuck the bullets in a piece of 1/2" thick stiff foam and after I dipped them, just propped the foam upside down until they were dry. There are probably better methods, but that one worked for me.

If you have just a few of them, you could get a green marker and touch them up. I don't know if they make the Sharpie in green, but that would be best if they did.

Hope this helps.

GI bullets are dipped in very thin lacquer of the appropriate color.

The thin coat of lacquer dries almost instantly.

You can get it & the proper thinner at any hobby shop that handles radio control model aircraft.
