I'm loading some .45LC for a couple old Colts that are/were in .455 Eley. The maximum OAL in my manuals is 1.600". Using Missouri Bullet's 262gr, .455" and seating the bullet to the top cannelure gives me an OAL of 1.685". It does not extend beyond the throat.

I believe I read here a while back that the cannelure sets the OAL for that particular bullet. Or, should I go deeper and achieve the listed 1.600" OAL.

I do not want to increase the pressure beyond what these old guns can handle.

Yes, I got a 100 bullet sample pack of the Webley #2 coated .455s just to see how they worked out. I stand corrected on the lube groove and cannelure.

I'm actually working with two Colts and a Smith. It's interesting that the level of expertise used (or over used) to "convert" these guns widely varies.

The OAL in your manual is NOT the max OAL for that round, it is only reporting the OAL of the ammo they are loading. Revolver bullets should be seated to the manufacturer's supplied crimp groove. Load a dummy round in a case and check to see if it fits in the cylinder without sticking out the end.

As for pressure, start low and work up as usual.
