Can I use a .358 dia. 158 grain round nose bullet for a 35 remington lever gun? The factory ammo is 180 or 200 grain copper jackets.

Yes, but if they are lead RN, you need to keep velocities down a bit to avoid possibly leading the barrel. If they are jacketed, no problem.

Are you asking about the bullet weight or the use of round nose bullets in a lever gun or both?

With the bullet weight, you should be fine. You do have a reloading manual right?

As for the round nose in a lever gun, I can't help you there.

Core-Lokts and other factory rounds are round nosed, you will be fine...

As for velocity, unless you are gas checking, keep em below 1500fps till you see if they lead, and if they do, slow down some more...

I shoot hard cast 158 Penn TCBB in my 336RC with no leading, but I am shooting low doses of Red Dot in the 1000-1100 FPS range (guesstimate)...

If you want to load cast bullets you'll need an expander die, I use a Lyman "M" die for loading cast .358 bullets in my 357 Herrett Contender.
The Lyman Cast Bullet Handbook has cast bullet loads for the 35 Rem.

For a hoot, I have shot them with a full case of Trail Boss.

No reason you cannot do it at higher speeds. Do understand that the jacketed stuff is meat to work at pistol velocities, and may not hold up at rifle velocities. Splat.

I went down this road in march. I tried this with my 35 with Ballard and MBC strikers, HD bullets landing in a 12 foot circle at 200 yards. Brad @ MBC thinks they need to be sized to 359.

Penn makes a 180gr TCBB hard cast that you can order @ .359"...

They also have a 200gr TCGC, but the fattest that one comes is .3575"...Supposed to be good past 2100fps with no leading...
