I went out Saturday and shot an unofficial 269. First time I've even broken 250. That was with a very disappointing 84 on rapid fire.....still need work on my rapid fire trigger control.

I put 15 straight into the black on a slow fire target and went on to put 32 of 35 in the black. It took me those 35 to get 10 shots into the 10 ring. Don't know if thats good or bad, but it gives me a goal to beat.

I've been shooting for about a month now. 1st handgun (Ruger Mark III).

I'd say you're doing pretty good for just a month in to it.

On rapid fire, don't work to beat the time just yet. Try and get the shots to break how you want them and keep them in the black. The speed part of it will come in time.

You actually have a lot of time to make your shots. For rapid sometimes I'll accept a slightly larger sight wobble but am still focusing on trigger pull. A 9 ring wobble to an 8 ring wobble is at worst one point. A jerked trigger may not even be a 6.

Were is the quote button?

Anyway.....so I have found. I'm good on timed fire (well better anyway) but start jerking on rapid. My trigger is tricky to pre-load as it has a very crisp 2lb break. I can usually get it on slow fire.....fairly good on timed, but feel like I don't have time to pre-load on rapid.

Looks like you've been reading this thread.

Good work on shooting well in practice. Keep practicing like its a match and the match will feel like practice.

Sure have.....very informative. I can tell I'm at that stage now were I will have good days and really bad days. Still have a lot of things to think about before I shoot. Eventually I'll get to a point were I can just focus on the fundamentals. I'm also probably nearing that stage were progress will come a little slower instead of the leaps and bounds since my first trips to the range. Those first several times my "arc of motion" was all over the target.....now on a good day I can easily hold the black and sometimes it looks like it settles right in the middle for a second or two. If I can nail down the rapid fire trigger control I'll be very happy.

People talk about setting goals for the year. Not even sure what is realistic but my goal is to make expert by the end of the outdoor season.
