What is "bump firing", I recently purchased a sub-2000 and my son found a video of someone "bump firing" one of them. Appears to be autofiring, how is this accoplished and will it damage the weapon?

Howdy from Chesterfield SC,

No, bump firing wont harm the weapon but will waste ammo IMO.

All you do is stick your finger or thumb through the trigger assembly and hook it to your belt loop. Bump it forward to fire the first round and then the recoil from that round causes the trigger to get pulled until the ammo is gone.

No big deal. IMO its fun to do once but I think its a waste of ammo.

Done it with both my M1 Garand and SKS.

ONCE with each. Not accurate, and a quick waste of a magazine full of ammo.

Rapid firing (of any description) is a recipe for throat erosion. On the other hand, with something like the Sub-2000 I doubt you'll be able to notice any significant loss of accuracy no matter how badly worn the barrel becomes.

So for practical purposes, there is no reason not to waste as much ammo as you can afford. It is the weapon's raison d'être, after all.

I'm POSITIVE I'll get blasted for the following but it's just my opinion and you can take it for what it's worth.

Besides being a ridiculous waste of ammunition, I consider "bump firing" incredibly irresponsible.

Don't we already have enough to worry about from all of the Sarah Brady's in the world WITHOUT giving them more fuel for their fire? Those people are already busting their humps trying to ban semi-automatics. Let them show a video of bump-firing to the "American Sheeple" and you've just made their job of destroying the Second Amendment a little bit easier. Don't read me wrong. I'm not defending them. I'm not saying it's right. I'm not saying it's fair. I merely know how my enemy operates and I know how they twist things to their advantage. They rejoice every time some nut-case goes on a shooting rampage or some Bubba does something stupid with a gun because it brings them one step closer to their goal.

Rights come with responsibilities. If someone wants to make a lot of noise without hitting any targets, I suggest lighting off a string of firecrackers.

Bump firing is the fastest and easiest way to waste ammo.

With the high cost and scarcity of ammo now I see no point in wasting perfectly good rounds just to make a cool sound.

Do a search of Bump fire for more info. Its your ammo, your money...a legally owned full auto runs in the thousands of dollars, a belt loop is cheap an legal in all 50 states.

I've tried is with an AR, but I held the forward pressure too hard and the recoil wasn't strong enough to reset the trigger. Was a waste of the few rounds I attempted it with.

More like tens of thousands of dollars...assuming you're in a state where you can own one legally.

No argument from me.

Too much work.

Just get a gun where you hold the trigger down one time. :banghead:

And you hopefully should have the money to play. All gone bye bye very fast. No boom long time until you have funds to reload with the way prices are going.

Obviously you've never shot a SUB-2000. They're very accurate, surpprisingly so, especially considering the gun folds in half. I had no trouble qualifying on the Maine patrol rifle course with mine.

As to the "bump" firing, I've enjoyed the videos on youtube but have no interest in sending rounds down range uncontrollably, never mind the cost of those kind of antics these days.

It accomplishes the brady bunch's infatuation with rapid firing from the hip, and it just as inaccurate as it sounds. That said, I've tried it a couple times. It's mildly amusing, but a waste of ammo as everyone's said. It won't harm anything as long as you don't get the gun too hot and have a BIG backstop since you are basically holding onto a full auto by the foreend and nothing else. Also don't use other things to help it like shoestrings, rubber bands, etc. unless you like federal prisons.

bump firing is a waste of ammo unless you can hit something with it. some people can bump from the shoulder and actually hit something. i'm still practicing with my ak. the rubber band technique sometimes help it easier to bump. type : poormans machine gun on youtube and the first few clips from this guy is awsome. other than that, there really is no use for it.

oh there is also the gat trigger you can buy, a hand crank device that pulls the trigger for you.

How is burning ammunition a waste in any way, shape, or form?!

I'd give anything to be able to go "waste" some ammo right now! If the price was low & availability of your favorite rd. high, would the "it's a waste" comment still apply?

Figure out how to do it (bumpfiring) well, & go blast a few for me!

Im with the "its fun to try once" & "its a waist of ammo" crowd. Ive done it once or twice with all my auto's that have recoil. I think the funnest one was my remington 1100 12 gauge. you can always buy the trigger crank if its legal in your state if you just like feeling the fully auto euphoria.
