A quick mini review of the Burris 3-9x Compact scope. It's a small-for-its-power 3-9x with an adjustable objective that's labled all the way down to 7 yards. Very decent choice for a small scope with a bit of power behind it. I bought my first one on eBay with what was described as a minor installation mark and slight ring marks. I paid $105 and there were only two of us that bid on it. I got it and the handling mark was itty bitty tiny and on the bottom but I would stop it from being accurately described as new.

I ordered it for my Howa Ultrallight in 243. I was originally planning on a VariX II 1-4x20 but figured with a rifle in such a caliber, I ought to go ahead and up the power a bit... just in case. I was so impressed with the one I got on the cheap, I almost immediately bought another one at full (internet discount) price for my Marlin 22 Magnum which has served me so well with a Bushnell Dusk & Dawn 4-12. The Burris so much nicer you wouldn't even believe. I think I paid about $230 or $240 from either SWFA or BearBasin.

It definately has a thin duplex reticle which is fine when it's pretty bright but when the sky's a bit overcast, I sometimes wish for a bit heavier reticle. And not to knock it further, but since I have two, it is odd that the yardage indicators are inconsistant with one another. Minor complaints.

So far, I've probably put 800 rounds through my 22 Magnum bolt rifle with this scope mounted up and 240+ rounds through my Howa Ultralight with the other scope mounted. Never shifted zero, always right on the money.

Needless to say, if I had another use for a silimar scope, I'd get one without hesitation. This is my first owning experience with Burris and I must say that while I had an unfounded bias against them in the past, this one has certainly changed my mind... I'm one satisfied customer! :p
