Burris Veracity

troy fairweather says buying Burris scopes is the best scope money anyone can buy. Pay no attention to me. I am wonkey.

This discussion does raise an interesting question - is it normal for warranty service on sporting optics to include prepaid shipping, or not?

The only time in recent memory that I had to return an optic under warranty was when I had a defective Vortex Razor. In that instance, I simply took it back to the shop that I bought it from and they had their local sales rep process the warranty claim.

When I bought my first Burris the sight picture was so blurry I couldn't focus on the target. I contacted Burris and the asked that I send it back. When it was returned, with a lengthy description of the repairs, it was no better than purchased new. contacted them again and they said the problem was me and not their scope.

Did you have someone else local adjust the scope? Having someone else take a look through it to see if it was just you not setting the diopter correctly, or parallax; or it could have just been simply your eyes didn't agree with the scope could have maybe alleviated some angst towards a company that went through the scope and said it was operating fine when returning to you.

I've only owned one Burris scope, it's a Timberline 4.5-14x32 and its a great scope, very clear and everything works as it should. So I don't have a lot of familiarity with their products (I'm a Leupold guy) but if one of their scopes fit my needs I wouldn't hesitate to buy it.

I do know that I've "dumb-guyed" it on adjusting scopes in the past on helping family and friends set them up and it looks clear to me but is blurry to the shooter and can't figure out why until I remember they need the diopter adjusted for their eyes and problem solved.

In my experience shipping TO the company is not, tho i suppose you might be able to get someone to give you a shipping label if you actually talked to them.

Ive sent back couple Bushnell, couple Leupold, a Weaver, couple Athlon, and a Zeiss........Im thinking....OH and a Nikon.

Thats an issue for people using my scopes. I have to TELL them to adjust the diopter since i have astigmatism in my right eye and the doc at kaiser upped the power in THAT eye to try and "correct" for it.....Ive noticed it actually works pretty well in general use, but looking thru optics it both gives me a headache and ive had to crank my diopters negative a turn or so more than i used to have them.

Yup, it's the adjustment that is easily forgotten.

Having only 1 failure I’ve ever sought relief on, my experience with Vortex was painless. RDS worked for 1 range session then quit. Walked through my process of battery replacement, verified I didn’t over-tighten cover (I re-read the manual), and they sent me a pdf with pre-paid shipping label. I had a replacement unit in about a week after sending.

I have a Veracity that I like quite a bit. I needed Burris customer service for a part for a Fast Fire and was very happy with how quickly they responded and got me the part.

I have one I got for free.
When I was looking for a new scope I decided on a Fullfield E1 and at the time order the deal they had at the time. Buy an E1 and get a free 3x9. I was like why not a free scope.
Package arrived and when I looked inside the box I saw 2 Burris scope boxes.
I opened the small one first thinking it was the 3X9 and to my surprise it was the E1 and yep you guessed it... They sent a veracity instead of the 3X9..

Ok nice lot of good reviews, a lot of scope for the money If you don't want/need ffp. Hope to see what you think of the scope, the few I've handled were nice.

So, I received my scope today. First impressions are pretty good. Comes with flip-up caps and a sunshade. That's pretty cool.

Downside, it is heavier than I expected. Will see what it feels like on the rifle and do some range work and let you guys know!

Man, I hate that for you. I have had a few that I didn't care for. Hopefully, my luck will be better.

They always feel heavier off the gun, one think luepold does good. Hope it works out for you, if I had the money id pick one up, maybe the 2-10 tho.

I bought a used Veracity for my Savage bolt gun... 4x20 if memory serves. Yes, the magnification knob is a little stiff, and not so easy to grasp, but it works well enough. I was surprised at how bright and clear it was, particularly coming off my old Bushnell, which I thought was a good scope. I'd buy another.

Not a very good pic, but you get the idea...

FWIW, the idea behind customer service is never having to need it. Burris builds good scopes, but like everything, occasionally there is a lemon in the bushel. Paying the freight back to the mothership is general practice, in my experience... nothing nefarious there.

did you try turning the focus ring?

I did everything possible to get this scope to work. I am sharing an experience that I had with Burris scope here. If this displeases others I apologize. There are many that would take issue negative comments and refrain from sharing experiences for fear of what others may say.

Unfortunately I am not one of those. I have learned by listening to all opinions and not shutting out those that displease me.

I don’t believe anyone is attempting to stifle your opinion, just discern what the issue was and if it was user error. It happens. Until I started selling binoculars from behind a sporting goods counter my experience was limited to grandpa’s old cheap pair that were fuzzy in 1 eye. Once I learned about the diopter setting and covering the occular rather than closing the opposite eye for individual eye focus, I didn’t realize what I’d been missing.

May not have been your issue, but it was for me. I cannot use any scope out of the box thanks to my aging eyes, always loosening the ring to adjust it first now.

This is a troy fairweather fan boy post. Not THR post. Heaven forbid any advice not meeting Troy's criteria.

And to tell the truth I am not the one seeking the advise here although troy fairweather seems more than willing to give it to me. I feel sorry for the others that are here.

Troy's approval seems to be a requirement. I have a safe full of Leupold's. And one Burris.

All troy fairweather seems to have is 14k posts and an opinion.

Don't buy a Burris. Lifetime warranty means you will have to ship the scope for repair as many times as needed on your dime. Please don't lecture me on Burris bitterness or Burris second chance. If you don't want to listen by all means buy a Burris.

I am not the one seeking the advice here.
To be fair, that READS a lot more like a rant post than advice....
I still "liked" that post because it does offer a different opinion than what most of us have, with clarification becomes a little easier to understand the frustration its coming from.

To me it sounds like the actual issue is that Burris didnt handle the situation in the way that was expected. I think that should be taken into consideration when looking and making a purchase.
Specifically, If you do have a problem will the company you're dealing with handle it and in a way that you both can walk away happy?

In relation to the mechanical issue you experienced I think your eyes just do not agree with how the Burris machines adjust scopes.
I know mine dont with many/most companies optics.
If I stay under 10 or 12 power, and don't look much outside 200 yards, it's not as noticeable. Now that I started looking for 15x plus on the top end and shooting farther, ive found that I have to tinker with many of the scopes I get....... The fact that they're gluing the lense assemblys in now makes it quite annoying also, can't imagine anybody really likes taking a heat gun to $1,000 scope.
Like I said it happens, how the parties handle the situation maters more than the fact that it happened in my opinion.

Anyway @Moparnut got his scope, hopefully he can give us his opinions on it after he's had some time to use it a bit.
I'd really be interested in hearing how the turrets are, I considered picking up one of the newer burris signature 5-25s for a rifle i just ordered, But decided to go with an Athlon Midas HMR simply because it's a known value, and a the Burris scopes I played with/own have pretty squishy adjustments.

I tend to only use them on set it and forget it rigs.

If the higher end Burris turrets are noticably better than the fullfields and the old Black Diamond I had I'll probably go ahead and pick one up when I've got the extra cash.
