Whats the word on the Burris Xtreme rings for about $42 a pair?

I was going to get a Larue tactical SPR mount, but Im being forced to cut funds by half or more.

How high of rings does a scope with a 42mm lens need for clearance?

The rings are very well built! Here a set of high rings mounted on my AR, with a Bushnell 3200 10x40 scope. You may want to get the x-high, for a more comfortable cheek weld, but the high rings should clear your 44mm scope.

isn't the front sight in the way ?

(i know nothing about mounting scopes on AR's )

They work pretty well. They are definitely not the quality of LaRue etc, but then they are much cheaper as well.

I had one that the cross bolt was made improperly and it popped off as soon as I started to tighten it. I had bought a set and the other one in the set was fine, so I used it. My first one had worked well so I bought the set when I needed another mount. They are on two range guns. I am not sure I would go with them for a real serious rifle, but they are fairly robust and should handle most needs.

I went with X-High rings which will give a 1/3 co witness with an Aimpoint. I am not sure about scopes. Probably similar.

I have them on a .308 and a .22. I had the .22's scope on a .50BMG. No problems, QA or otherwise, with either pair on any of the three rifles.

You will never notice the front sight post.

Yepp, once you hit about 3X the front sight just washes out.
