Bush administration put UN above the USA

By going through the UN, Bush and Co. gave power over the USA to the anti-American coalition of Leftists and Turd Worlders.

If the USA had acted unilateraly in Iraq, the enemies of the USA (the enemies of Western Civilization itself!) would not have the power over US as they do now.

Going to the UN....

Despite the functional irrelevance of the UN, it actually does function as a world forum, a place for the issues to be laid on the table.

The outcome of laying it on the table goes one of 2 ways:

A) The world lines up behind us, which doesn't hurt or
B) Our enemies make themselves known.

The rest of the world does exist, and having a stage upon which to play out the diplomatic drama provides a certain useful focus and clarity.


No "power" is given to them. We will do whatever is in our best interest, as will all the other players. At least with the stage of the UN, we can keep score.

Dude, get a grip. We are putting on a show in the UN because we still have troops and heavy weapons en route. We are "giving peace a chance" because the tanks ain't all there yet.

I've got to say that I've never understood the paranoid wacky fear and loathing of the UN that some on the right have. It is a great big noisy nothing. So what? It gives everybody a place to send their unqalified diplomats to talk at each other. Do you really belive the black helicopters are coming to take your guns, shoot your pigs, and give your daughters to the ambassador of Nigeria or something?

Bush ain't Clinton. Bush knows how power works. We are dancing with the UN and Sadaam because we ain't got the heavy killing machinery in theatre. It ain't time to launch.

The whole UN thing was Bush creating a Good Cop right after he convinced Sadaam that he (Bush) was the Bad Cop. Letting the Good Cop keep headlines for a while allows the US time to get forces in place.

I hope Bush has learned a lesson from Sadaam II. Our force structure has got to get light on its feet mainly because US opinion as too much time to be shifted.

IMHO Waitone and Sean Smith have it about right. the Bush administration has been using the UN to buy time to build up and equip forces (one entire division did NOT have desert fatigues when they first deployed - thanks to billy jeff again ) while also forcing the various 'allies' to sort themselves out publicly...thus preventing another 1938 scenario where mutual diplomatic backstabbing became the order of the day behind the scenes.

The Prez said post 9-11 that you are fur us or agin us. The UN is doing a magnificant job of winnowing out the furs and agins.
What will be amusing to watch is how the agins will start toadying up post Iraq. What happens with Iraq will change the face of our world for the forseable future, and for the good of all.

While I admit Dubya has been doing the best Franz Josef impression in nearly 90 years, I see nothing wrong with giving the UN the opportunity to resolve things peacefully while we build up for doing it the bloody way.

They've probably got until the next dark of the moon to actually accomplish something for the first time in their existence. What's wrong with giving them that chance?

The timing is based on military need. The unfortunate part of this is that it wasn't done months ago. This thing is spooking people and is having a negative impact on the economy.

I hope that we use Iraqi resources and money to rebuild the country. If not, the economic drain will be a real damper on the economy.

Besides delay, there is one other thing that GWB is doing which I see as good process. He is putting Saddam farther into the corner while Hans will hopefully find more WMD's.

Without Saddam's help, Blix is spinning his wheels. Blix is there to verify the terms of Saddams surrender in 91 and to report back to the U.N. The only WMD that were found previously came from defectors' information. Short of blind luck, or very good and timely intelligence, Blix won't be finding much. Blix has a history of not finding much.
