You guys who are enjoying this thread will get a blast out of this one:

The brass at Bagram apparently had a hard time rounding up New Yorkers who wanted to have dinner with Clinton, D-N.Y. Only six GIs responded to an e-mail sent out last week that stated, "Looking for military members from New York and Rhode Island interested in meeting their Senator/Congressman."

People magazine was on hand to cover the event and wanted to interview the troops for reaction to Clinton's visit.

"But they were getting declined left and right," our source said. "People were actually telling the reporters, 'You don't want to print what I think about her and her visit.'"

After Clinton and her entourage departed, the only topics GIs wanted to talk about were "how great the food was and how fantastic they thought George Bush's visit to Iraq was."

BWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHA!

had a Democrat president done this exact same thing,

Oh, heck, here comes a bunch of articles from the mainstream media (courtesy of our "Dean can get the gun owner vote" member :D ) about Clinton's visit to Kosovo in 1999.

Once again, in fairness it WAS good for President Clinton to go to Kosovo in 1999, but thats no comparison to the danger of the Bush visit in 2003.

PLEASE no Guardian.uk or New York Times articles about how if Bush hadn't tricked us into the war it wouldn't be dangerous.:D

As an active member of the "shrub is a moron" caucus, I gotta acknowledge that he did the right thing here. Would have liked to see him get to some of the troops outside the airport, but he did show up and that's what counts.

Gutsie move just going into Bagdad airport. Ever see Air Force 1 taking off or landing? Makes for one hell of a sight. Could imagine the enemy seeing the big blue on final. Bet they were chomping at the bit to get a shot at it. We had alot of forces covering final and take off routes for quite a ways out keeping the man safe.

I for one salute the Commander in Chief for his actions on Thanksgiving Day. Thats one that I will never forget. Neither will the guys on the ground over there.

Good on ya boss!!:D

"......you don't walk down the halls of Saddam Hussein Airport without your big brass ones clanking like nothing the dems have ever heard."

The Commander and Chief ought to come out with a Christmas music video in which he is walking down the runway of Saddam Hussein Airport with his equipment clanking and he sings:

Sleigh bells ring
Are you listening
In the lane
Snow is glistening
A beautiful sight
We're happy tonight

Last week. McCarren Airport, Las Vegas.
Air Force one was parked within full view of our station. Didn't get to see the big man though. Saw the motorcade from a distance. I hate to say this, but Bill Klinton stopped at our station and ate chilli the last time he was here. This time though we did get to eat lunch with one of the Secret Service bomb detection dogs. I was kind of disappointed they wouldn't let me give him any junk to eat. Poor thing.

There's a good documentary on the Mogadishu conflict by the History Channel; "The True Story of Black Hawk Down".

Near the end of the documentary the Air Force Combat Controller says "As the Commander in Chief you are obligated to be just as tough as the people you send out to die."

God bless our troops.

Never got to see Air Force One but Bush Sr. came out to NSA after Desert Storm to speak to to the employees there. A formation of 3 helos came in and circled the NSA. One came in like it was going to land and did a touch and go. I guess it was a decoy. Then the second one landed and Bush Sr. got out and gave a fifteen minute speech thanking the NSA techs and analysts for their work during Desert Shield and Desert Storm. It was pretty cool. :)
