Found this AR for sale privately. It's a Bushmaster with a Colt Rail system and an aimpoint site. I'm not too much for the paint but it's 900 bucks. 1 mag and a case.

What do you guys think? Decent deal for my first AR?
I've been lurking over the past year reading and learning. You guys area wealth of great information. Thanks for the help.

that sounds fair... unfortunately most are jacking their prices much higher than that (unnecessarily) but that is a fair deal... if you can afford it, definitely scoop it up...

I agree with maskedman, spraypainting a nice rifle just seems odd to me,i know people can do nice patterns and all but it reminds me of when i was a kid after watching a rambo movie or something.I could see it if your an avid hunter and theres a good reason,to each his own i just range shoot i wouldnt pay 900 for spraypaint anything end rant:p

personally, I buy the gun, not the finish, too easy to change that part... if the gun is a model I am interested in, shoots reliably, is free of rust, and is well priced, I dont care what it looks like. it is just too easy to refinish a gun... AND IT DOESNT LOOK THAT BAD>>>>lol

Considering that I was just in a gun store today that had a sign behind the counter declaring that they will be receiving a shipment of CMMG AR's next week and the price will be $1549, I'd say, yeah, that's a good deal. Before this insanity started you could have walked out the door with a CMMG for about $900 or less. The paint will come off.

I guess I can qualify my previous comment by saying I would never spray paint any firearm, especially my own. Yeah, ok, Duracoat. mmhmm. I would rather send it somewhere to get re-blued or re-finished professionally. I once spray painted a pickup truck bed. Guess what, it chips. And then you spray it more. And it chips. And you spray it more. Kinda okay for a pickup truck bed, not for a rifle, IMHO.

the good thing about paint on a gun, it CHIPS OFF>>>>.. leaving a nice original black color underneath...sure it might be a pain in the ass, but small price to pay as compared to another several hundred dollars for the same or a lesser gun.

My thoughts exactly guys. I told the person that I hated the paint job that's how I had them come off the price. (You don't want to know what they were asking before)

Any easy way to get the paint off?

it's a great deal. especially if it actually includes an aimpoint. (as opposed to one of the chinese import knockoffs)

Deal or no deal

You can always go over the old paint job by buying or making you own stencils and re-camoing it. The mount on the Aimpoint looks like it might be too low to witness over the front sight base. Also, if it's a knock off Aimpoint, I'd give about $20 max over the price of the rifle alone. The fakes usually have about 5 brightness settings and you can turn the adjustment dial left or right from the low to the high setting from the off setting. Real Aimpoints have around 10 brightness settings and the adjustment dial will only turn clockwise from lowest to brightest off the zero setting.
If the aimpoint is real and it's a factory built gun , it's a killer deal, if it's a parts guns and a fake aimpoint, I might pass unless they came even further down in price. Factor in the price of a new mount if the Aimpoint won't co-witness.
He'll probably get $900 dollars whether you buy it or not.

Riser mount

On second glance it appears that there is some type of riser mount on the flat top so that sight may indeed co-witness.

I would honestly buy that gun myself if I had a shot at it.
I would hope the paint job is a good one, the optic works , there isn't a single spot of rust and nothing broken or worn to death. If all that is good to go, then this is a sweet deal given the Aimpoint.

If this thing comes with the Aimpoint and you haven't bought it yet something is wrong with you. Even if you bought it and decided you hated the paint it will come off.

If it doesn't come with the Aimpoint you may want to keep looking, however you will have a hard time finding a deal right now.

The price of the rail system and and a genuine Aimpoint and mount is close to $900 alone.

Verify the Aimpoint is not a clone.

It should have 11 settings, not 5 and the dial should only turn one way.

It also looks to have an aftermarket grip as well. That is a good price these days, if you dont buy it let me know. I have a friend that would jump on that.

I semi-retract my earlier post,if its a genuine aimpoint and a decent mount its well worth the asking price, last ar-15 i bought was a doube star from bud's it was october of 08 , new gun with a price of $750-785 out the door. I guess im just still in denial of the horrific new price hike.hope the prices fall soon.
