A press release from Bushmaster and Iron Brigade Armory:

Windham, Maine / Jacksonville, NC - Bushmaster Firearms International, LLC (Bushmaster) and Iron Brigade Armory, Ltd. (IBA) today announced the formation of Bushmaster Custom Shop by Iron Brigade (BMCS) - a new Joint Venture Company that will focus on premium AR rifle system solutions, and customized Tactical Precision bolt action rifle platforms, initially for Law Enforcement and Military applications.

The Joint Venture Company will have its Manufacturing and Business Development organization based in Jacksonville, NC with Norm Chandler Jr. as its CEO. Bushmaster will be the majority owner and will provide the initial funding for facilities and personnel. This venture is the marriage of two organizations that are dedicated to quality, accuracy and durability in quality firearms for their customers.

"The opportunity to work with IBA allows Bushmaster to extend our brand to the premium end of the AR15 market place with customized solutions at lower volumes than our Windham facilities can handle economically, and is something that our customer base is telling us is important in addressing their needs", stated E. Scott Blackwell, Bushmaster President and Chief Sales and Marketing officer.

Initially, BMCS will focus on custom AR15 platforms based on the .223 and 5.56 caliber ammunition, with first products being available for sale in mid summer 2007. BMCS will also leverage the work done by Iron Brigade Armory and it's legendary founder - weapons designer and sniper author LTC. (ret) Norm Chandler Sr. - to offer a number of tactical precision rifles later this year.

Said Norm Chandler Jr., "Our goal at Iron Brigade Armory has always been to produce and deliver the highest quality tactical and bolt action precision rifles for military, law enforcement, and select commercial customers. This joint venture with Bushmaster provides us access to further expertise in the area of the AR15 platform, to leverage and develop into advanced custom solutions for our existing customer base and new customers around the world."

BMCS's customized solutions will be based on Bushmaster's proven, quality AR platforms. Configurations and accessories will be based upon customer's needs, and Iron Brigade's experience and recommendations. The products will be sold and serviced through the BMCS facility in Jacksonville, NC.

That sounds intresting. I personally wouldn't have a need for it, as most of my rifles out shoot me by a long shot.

a friend of mine just got back form the bushmaster headquarters they had some sort of meeting, i guess this has something to do with why he went up there. he also recently started working for iron brigade and moved down to jacksonville not to long ago. he said something about that bushmaster was uping production going to like 120,000 rifles. way up from thier normal production numbers, i think they got a new contract with another country. which one? i don't know.

If I remember correctly, a company called Cerebus bought out Bushmaster a year or two ago. That same company also recently acquired Remington. Sounds to me like someone is looking to get fairly aggressive in going after the firearms market.
