I have a Bushmaster rifle with the handle and A2 design. It is an M4 and I bought it new last winter. I am interested in selling the entire upper assembly which looks about like new. It has had approximately 500 rounds put through it. I did replace the three gas rings with the spiral one-piece McFarland ring.

The barrel is 14.5" plus the original OEM welded & pinned Izzy flash supressor makes the barrel a bit over 16" in length to be legal (the gun is just as I bought it). It has the indented (smaller diameter) barrel for a grenade launcher.

I am interested in buying a Bushmaster complete upper having a 20" barrel without sights (as I have a scope to install on the new upper).

I want to advertize the complete upper to sell in the appropriate category.

I am not too familiar with this. I assume that I can sell the complete upper and it is not considered a gun, because the (lower) receiver is where the serial number is located.

Do I advertize what this will fit, or do I just advertize what I'm selling (the complete upper, including bolt, carrier, handguard, charging handle, etc.)?

I believe the new setup from Bushmaster is about $590 for the same thing (A2) that I want to sell.

Will this be a problem selling this and my ordering what I want from Bushmaster for the complete upper? What is the difference between my selling the complete upper or keeping the bolt and other parts? I'm assuming that a gunsmith would need to fit my parts, if I kept them to put into the new longer barrel and it would just be easier for everyone to sell the complete upper and obtain a new complete upper.

FYI, here's the Bushmaster page with the upper units (mine is the 8th one from the top listed as 14.5" Bbl. M4 Type Upper Receiver/Barrel Assembly and mine is the A2):

I appreciate any help on this so I can get the sale going in the appropriate category.

Thanks,
Inspector

You are correct. No FFL or paperwork needed to sell the upper. It is just a gun part.

I would sell the old BCG with the upper, and obtain a new one with your new upper. It's usually recommended that each upper you own have it's own respective BCG. You can't swap a worn bolt in a worn upper with a new bolt or your headspace MAY be off. For the same reason, BCG should not be swapped between different uppers.
However, since you said you've fired ~500 rounds through yours, I would say the BCG will still be "new" enough to work in a new upper. In fact, I put just a little over 500 rounds through my own Bushmaster before I replace the OEM bolt carrier group with a BCM full-auto one (I highly recommend the Bravo Co. BCGs if you ever decide to buy another BCG. BCM is the best for the money). The Bushmaster BCG is now a spare/back-up. The choice is really yours though, but then again you could offer a complete package to the buyer if you include the BCG with the upper you are selling.

I would say the best place to put your ad (I'm assuming you want to do it here) would be in the Accessories section of the Trading Post part of the forum. And for your description, a good pic of the actual upper being sold will go a long way.

Hope this helps. :)

Yes, it helps a lot. Thank you for your time and the easy to understand answer!:)

Your new Bravo Bolt Carrier Group - did it drop in, or did a gunsmith have to fit it?
