I am looking to put a red dot on my polytech m14s. I am looking for a good unit, that would be good for the range, home defence, or, God forbid, SHTF. For something i may have to use to defend my life with, i dont want to skimp, but price is a big issue, since i am a poor college student. I am looking at a bushnell holosight. It looks identical to the EOtech, but is a bit cheaper (250 bucks at midway usa) Has anyone used one of these? if so, how do they compaire to the EOtech, and should i go with that one, or save up a bit more and go with the EOtech or Aimpoint? Thanks in advance.

The prime difference between the stock holosight and the eotech (they are both made by eotech) is the armored hood on the eotech.

The hood protects the heads up display from impact. I believe the eotech has a better waterproof rating as well.

You'll have to weigh the value of these upgrades and their worth to you.

I would recommend looking at the new generation eotech/bushnell sights (rev F). They have longer battery life. In the eotech line the AA battery sight that is non-night vision compatible is the 512. You can sometimes find these used on AR15.com and other battle gun forums for under $300.

I'm in a similar boat to you, I've got an AR that needs a red dot. I've been looking for the best deal I can find on a used eotech or aimpoint. The first one I find for around $200 gets my money.

I've seen 3 deals on these optics for right at $200 in the last month, I'm always just a little late logging on to catch them.

Good luck,

EoTech makes/made both.

Friend has a Bushnell and complains that it is not alwats bright enough especially compared to the newer EoTech's.

Have an EoTech Rev. E myself that's pleanty bright. Now than the "F" Rev. is out should be able to find "E",s for $250 or less used on AR15.com, etc.

Another exc. sight can find used for ca. $200.00 is Trijicon Reflex II's for $2-250.00. One is on my "House Gun" simply as it has tritium to back up the fiber optic and its triangle reticule is huge compared to Aimpoints 4 min. or Eo's 1 min. dot, etc.
