If you’re interested in an AR-15 optic, read on – if not, nothing to see here...

Everybody at both local gun shops seems to be impressed with the Bushnell Throw Down PCL AR Optic I got from Walmart. They all remarked how bright and clear the glass was (they’ve looked through a lot more scopes than I have), and all seemed to like the features (how clear the red dot was, the bullet drop marks not being visible until you crank the power up, etc).

Might want to check one out or keep it in mind if you’re in the market for an AR optic?

It looks like Bushnell actually sent someone to some 3-Gun matches to see what folks were doing before building this scope – it’s a shame other makers are so darn slow doing the same?

1. Can be used as a red dot when on 1x (both eyes open).
2. If the red dot fails, the horseshoe / red dot are still there, just in black.
3. Bullet drop compensation hash marks – so small you don’t seem them on 1x, but crank the scope up and they grow. Designed so you don’t see them when using the scope as a red dot (at close range), but need to reach out a bit, you just crank it up to 4x and the BDC marks are visible.
4. FIRST FOCAL PLANE RETICLE! Scope makers sure are slow producing these, and a lot of AR etc folks don’t want the old traditional 2nd Focal Plane Reticle – with the rapidly changing ranges etc ARs are being used at, you don’t have time to be cranking on no turrets and figuring out changing BDC values because of a 2nd Focal Plane scope!

$419 MSRP, $299 @ Walmart. I had one on order from SWFA Outdoors for a month (@ $227 + shipping), but in over a month, NOBODY but Walmart has!
I have a feeling Walmart has an exclusive agreement to get the first X number of scopes produced before Bushnell can sell to anyone else. I ran into this very thing with my Magnavox DVR a few years back – Walmart had exclusive rights to the first X units Funai produced – nobody else got any or could sell them until Walmart’s initial order was satisfied.

9 out of 10 Walmarts I’ve been in have them, but probably only 1 per store, and I got the one in the local store!

Here’s a few links for the scope:

NOTE: The reticle picture at the site above is incorrect – only the horseshoe and red dot are illuminated – the BDC marks ARE NOT!

Guy over on ARF got his WM to price match SWFA price. My WM would not price match for me and I wasn't willing to pay $299.

I called SWFA and dude told me he emailed Bushnell since SWFA has not received their shipment.

I really like the Throw Down. I was surprised at it's weight. I'm going to get one with the SWFA mount since that combo offers a great value.

Glad you like yours...I dig the reticle.

That lever is an interesting idea. Overall, it looks like a decent scope to fit in that market between the cheap NC Stars and other gun show specials and the Leupolds and Trijicons. I think there are probably lots of people who know not to waste their money on junk but don't think they can afford $400+ on an optic.

I've been very happy with my Bushnell scope, so for the money, I'd expect this one to perform. Nice find.

I see Trijicon has a similar scope (VCOG) due out in the fall, at an MSRP of only $2,250!

Darn near identical, but the Trijicon does have 1-6x instead of the Bushnell's 1-4x. The Trijicon also has about 10 different reticle choices, and it has a bump on the back which approximates the Bushnell lever when folded - the Trijicon does not unfold to an upright position.

Well, at least you get a mount with the scope - looks like your choice of screw or QD - the QD mount looks like another Bobro Engineering piece with Trijicon's name on it.

We'll see what the street price will be, but as with all Trijicon stuff it ain't gonna be cheap!

Where is this scope manufactured?
Just looked on the box and thru the manual - don't see any info, but I seem to remember stumbling across something when unpacking that said made in China?
(maybe on the scope itself?)

I'll have to check out the scope later and see if it's printed on it.
