I need an elastic sleeve/sock that goes over the butt stock of a rifle and holds extra ammo.

The gun is a 1885 falling block single shot in 22 hornet. I bought a standard such sleeve at Bass Pro but the 22 hornet cartridges are so small that they fall right through.

Solutions?

Funny I bought one at Gander Mountain and it holds my 30 30 shells just fine. I will have to try some Hornet shells though.

The one I bought would hold 30-30 just fine.

The 22 hornet, with me hiking in the field, would drop through.

The nylon ones for .30-30 also hold .410 3" quite well (and 7.63x54R).

.22 Hornet tho is petite next to a .30-30.

My only experience with leather ammo carriers was that after a few days, the brass would tarnish and develop green.

They hold up longer if you don't leave them on the stock or leave ammo in them. If you do both, the elastic breaks down quickly. And most people tend to leave them on the rifle.

I have seen pictures of holders on guns for sale. I never wanted one or needed one.

Put two shells in each pocket and they won't rattle.

Just a thought, but I bought a inexpensive sleeve at Sportsman's Warehouse that had a zippered pouch instead of loops. It lived on my 870 for a while then moved over to my Glenfield 75C. I believe the brand was Uncle Mikes.

What about a stock pouch for an M1 carbine, with the two magazine pouches? Should hold quite a few loose rounds.
