I've decided to buy a Ruger LCP. I know the early ones had some troubles, but they are reliable now. I'm sure that most of the problematic early LCP's are no longer in gunshops. However, what serial numbers or other characteristcs should I avoid in order to ensure I get the newer reliable models? Thanks!

I don't know about serial numbers but the new ones and ones that have had the issue resolved at the factory have a little red dot sticker near the takedown pin. Mine functions fine with all ammo i've put through it, fmj and hp. They're not pleasant to shoot but they weren't designed for paper punching.

Bought mine earlier this year, I think it was made late 2010. 200+/- rounds and no issues. Winchester WB for practice and Hornaday Critical Defense for carry. Shoots both fine. Very accurate... if you can hold it on target through the trigger pull.

[Unless there is another i am not aware of the Ruger recall was a safety issue in which the internal drop safety was malfunctioning. Serial numbers can be checked at the link below:

This is right on! Reliability was never an issue with the LCP! I had one of the "originals" and it functioned just fine. Sent it in on the recall and it still performs flawlessly. I suspect that the lawyers lurk in the background!!!

I own one that was recalled and repaired before I purchased it brand new.

I have shot over 20 different cartridge, load, bullet combinations and I have not had one problem. I have four magazines with the mag extension bottom plates (gives a half a finger more grip). All four magazines are made in Italy and all four and the gun function flawlessly, even after putting over 500 rounds through the gun without cleaning it at all!

I started loading Meister 92g Lead Round Nose bullets which also function flawlessly! To be honest, this LCP is probably the most reliable gun I have ever purchased, considering all the different ammo I am able to shoot out of it without a jam, without a stove pipe, without a FTF, etc.

Mine is #374 over 500 rounds no issues at all ,other than i love this gun! Very accurate at 15-25 ft!

I have a 372 with about 300 trouble free rounds. 102gr Remington Golden Saber for carry, 90gr PMC for practice.

Lcp 38

I purchased mine about 45 days ago and have run about 100 rounds through it. No non +p yet, but 130 gr FMJ Winchester White Box is very manageable. It also shoots well with Hornady Critical Defense 110 gr FTX. It is pretty accurate for a 1.875 " barrel revolver. I added a CT Lasergrip, which feels great. I find myself sticking it in my front pocket when i leave the house each day. A great every day carry gun. Great price, light weight, good stopping power, and very concealable handgun.

I too own an LCP. It has been flawless but I haven't put a ton of rounds through it due to the fact that ammo is expensive and it hurts to shoot after awhile.

Anyway, I believe that all the guns that have had the safety recall and maybe all guns since the fix, have a little diamond punched into the steel behind and below the hammer.
