Buying for Twins?

OK, I have twin boys. They are almost two years old now. Since they were born, I've had this nagging feeling that I need to get two of every firearm so they will each have one.

Anyone else with twins? Are you trying to get two of everything? Are you going totally broke?

So far I only have one set of twins guns (P7M13's).

I just sent out a C&R application, so I can at least get two of some cheap guns when that comes in.

I think I'll at least have to get matching .22's for their first guns.

What's a Dad to do? Should I try to get matching guns from now on, or just concentrate on variation and let them fight over who gets which gun? At least I still have a few years to expand the collection before they begin shooting.

The price of guns and ammo is negligible compared to the total cost of twins. (Don't know whether to put smiley or frownie or weepy icon here)

The initial price of milsurp guns looks attractive, but there may be other .22's that can "grow" because of availability of shorter or longer stocks. Ruger 10/22's are reasonbly priced and have a bunch of aftermarket stocks etc. Marlin 25N is a decent price and is a bolt gun, maybe better for kids, for aiming instead of blasting.

Don't worry about them fighting over possessions. They will anyway.

Well we have twin grandsons, 2 1/2 years old. My wife and I have acquired 2 Chipmunks to give them when they are old enough. I do think, however that when they are first learning, only one should have a gun at a time for safety reasons. Later, when they are older, they could both shoot at the same time.

My brother and I, 17 months apart, always shared one pellet gun until we were old enough to shoot .22's and shotguns.

Once you get your C&R, buying two SKSs at $109 each from AIM is like buying one for $200+tax at the dealer and getting one free. Or, thats how I explain it to my parents . Once nice thing I heard about was one dad on TFL bought his twin boys a pair of 22/45s with consecutive serial numbers, his dealer had to search around a little to find a distributor with a pair.

My GF has a twin sister (fraternal, so no problem id'ing them), luckily only my GF shoots or her dad would be in the poor house, he has 4 daughters total.

I've got twin seven year old girls. I hope to get them interested in shooting at some point ( if I win the battle with my wife). I've had the same thoughts about two of this and that, but it's probably a waste of time, because they are so different (and they are making an effort to be different). One say's blue, the other say's red. You'll probably see the same thing in another year or two. If I win the battle with the wife, I'll probably get them both a .22 rifle and pistol of some sort. And unless one of them shows more interest, or no interest, they'll just have to fight over my guns when they get older and I'm gone. I also have a twenty one year old daughter who has zero interest.

I dont have twins, but I do have two boys a year or so apart. They each got a Chipmunk 22 when they were born, and a 12 Ga pump, 308 bolt rifle and a 45 as they got old enough to shoot them. I figured I'd set them up with the basics and if they dont choose to go forward with shooting, at least they have what they need. If they get into it, they can get a job and work for what they want. I'm spending the rest on me!

I have 2 boys, not twins and I have the same dilemma. I usually don't get two of the same gun but I try to keep the number even and guns of about the same value. I keep telling them these will be yours when I croak! I've already given them some guns of their own like .22 rifles and target pistols in which case they were the same. I wouldn't sweat it too much. If you treat them good they will be happy no matter what you give or leave them. I got a couple of guns that were my father's when he died. While I treasure those guns, I would rather have him back than have them.

I guess I'll get two of some of the less expnesive ones, esp C&R guns. There's no way I can afford to get a second for some of them. Another HK91, for example.

I have twin grand daughters (1-1/2), a little young for guns...but both our boys were avid shooters & hunters. You're in for a real spending spree...(heehee!)

First of all don't make the same mistake I did...bought each of the boys 10/22's and plenty of banana clips....they were going through 5000 rds (a case) of .22's nearly every weekend. Got them each a Winchester 52 bolt actions and slowed the ammo consumption down a bunch.

Then got into shotguns (trap-skeet-sporting clays)....went through 10,000 rounds each summer.....the reloading components & ammo was the cheap part, fees for each round and travel were the spendy items.

Next was competitive rifle silhouette and IPSC shooting....$$$

Then we had to apply all this shooting skill to a practical purpose...."hunting" ...by the time you purchase hunting licenses, clothing, boots, equipment, travel......$$$$$$

For a while it was running in the 5 figure range each year for these addicting hobbies.....the money has long since been spent, but the memories will live forever....

I love kids, and I cannot wait to have some of my own. I want to buy each child a birthday handgun. I will have the slide engraved with his/her initials and the date. How cool would that be to show your friends a gun you have owned since the day you were born with the proof right on the gun? I wish I had one.

I've almost bought an AR twice now, but other things came along (Garand and 03-A3).

Part of me wants to go out and plunk down the $800 for a Bushy, and the other part says to wait for a Pre-Ban deal. Getting TWO Pre-Bans... Now That's gonna add up.
