Took it to the range today
Ok, so I took it to the range today, and put 200 rounds through it. I would have shot more, but I had some honey do items to take care of too
So here are the 2 targets I shot (sorry for the bad quality pics, photographer I definitely am not).
I shot 20 rounds at each bullseye at 5 yards or so. I think I did pretty good for my second time shooting. On the last bullseye, I was way off, and I thought at the time that it was due to me starting to get tired (the sight picture was pretty wobbly at this point
), but when I started to clean the gun, I noticed that there was quite a bit of lead fouling on it too. Especially around the muzzle. I wonder if this was affecting things on the last bullseye.
I did have 7 failure to feeds, and one failure to fire on this trip. I don't know if I'm doing something wrong, or if the gun just doesn't like the ammo I got (remington .22LR thunderbirds). The failure to feeds always seemed to happen on the 8th round in the magazine. The round would make it 1/2 to 3/4 of the way up the feed ramp, and then stove pipe when the bolt returned. Needless to say, I didn't try to refire these rounds, and now I'm wondering what I should do with them lol. It probably wouldn't be safe to just dump them in the garbage can, so any suggestions?
As I was cleaning it, I learned a very important lesson. Always keep bandaids handy when cleaning your gun lol. The bore brush got stuck in the bore, because of all the lead. I was holding the barrel with my right hand, and pulling on the brush with my left, to try and get it out. Next thing I know, my right hand slips, and I cut an inch long, front sight shaped, gash in my index finger. This gash then begins to bleed profusely all over my work area lol. Anyways, I think I got it stuck because I was trying to go too far down the bore before I cleaned the first part. I found that if I used short strokes and worked down the barrel slowly, the bore brush would eventually go all the way down the barrel. Solvent is your friend lol.
Anyways, that about sums it up for my first trip to the range with the new gun
