This afternoon I purchased my first gun... it's a Ruger 22/45, KP4 (.22LR, stainless, 4 3/4" barrel). Haven't had a chance to clean it and shoot it yet but I got what seems like a good deal ($239.99, I have seen it slightly cheaper but also more expensive).

Anxiously awaiting the chance to shoot it...

Congrats!!

Congrats on the first purchase. I purchased my first a 22cal Beretta Neos about 3 weeks ago then I really got the bug so this weekend I purchased a Dan Wesson 1911. Awsome!!! hope you enjoy your new toy.
:D

Good job! Let us know how it shoots. And if you hang out around here, it ain't gonna be the "last!"

Welcome aboard.

Congratulations...

Did you realize that the natural progression is to a .45 from that particular model of Ruger.;)

Waitone: Very possible, it has to be at least one month (stupid Virginia law)

4v50 Gary: I actually was looking more at the P944 (.40S&W) :)

There is little to no reason to ever stick a cleaning rod or brush in a .22 bore besides wanting to ruin the barrel. Try a Boresnake if it makes you feel better. Other than that, have fun.

Congrats, nothing compares to the feeling than buying your first gun.

Wait, I take that back...

Oh my ..... you're gonna have some fun now!!!:p

Just make sure bore is oil free ..... and also, you may find slide quite oily .. remove excess from that and inside ejection chamber when open, plus breech face ... then good to go.

If you want something to up the ante a bit beyond open sights ... try this ..... SoLow mounts and a red dot ... only just fitted these but ..... should be fun.

OUTSTANDING first choice!
Those Rugers are great for building confidence in shooters. Very easy to shoot accurately.

Lord Bodak,
Great choice. You can't go wrong with any of Ruger's 22s.

Tiberius and Legionaire are right, hopefully you'll get more.

The Rugers are tough 22s. Keep shooting them until they need a cleaning.

Once you find the brand of 22s that your new Ruger likes, stock up because 22s go quick at the range.

Excellent choice!
When you field strip it for cleaning, read the instructions carefully when putting it back together, they can be a bear to assemble sometimes. Nothing major it just takes some practice.
If you have problems getting it back together, comon' back and ask or do a search, it's a common question with the MKII's
