I took the plunge, today, and handed in my filled out
application for a Wash. St. Concealed Pistol License ( C.P.L. )
INteresting - they take your fingerprints so I thought I'd be
washing my fingertips with the leftover ink, etc. No, it's
High Tech.... you roll your finger with the assistance of the
person trained to do this, and it scans it and appears on a PC
screen - a good screen for a finger is rewarded with a beep.
and into the Patriot Act Database eh?

THere must be some people scanning in the old ink sheets to add to
the database - somebody is gonna get paid to do it.

$60 for 5 years I think and it should come back to me in 30 days.

Yes, I just received my CPL in Thurston county, Washington. This is the county that Olympia (the capital, for all you non-residents) is in. It costs the same as your's, $60 + 1$ if you want it laminated. Same deal as you, electronically-scanned fingerprints.

It took the full 30 days. I applied on 30 July, and got it I think on 29 August. They did the background check on 8 August (it said this on the permit when I got it back). So even though they did it roughly a week after I applied, they still made me wait the full 30 days. Seems silly.

Its good for five years. I'm sure you can go back and get it laminated when you get it.

Just go to Kinkos to have it laminated anytime. They also did not offer to have mine laminated through the PD.

When I applied for my CPL in King county, they had it back to me much sooner than 30 days. I think it took just under 2 weeks. That's kinda nice, considering King county is probably the most liberal area in the state.

Even though WA does not require a handgun training class, I took one anyway. I wanted some exposure to the laws around carrying concealed. I recommend the class that I attended at The Firearms Academy of Seattle

*BTW, the class was FREE

Welcome to "the buck a month club"!! We call it that since 5 years is 60 months, cost of permit $60, works out to $1 per month. Of course the renewals don't cost as much, $32 IIRC, which would be ~$0.53 per month, but that doesn't sound as good as "buck a month club".

They've been doing the electronic fingerprinting for years. I got my first CPL in Spokane County back about 1996 and they were doing it that way back then. I wasn't given the option to laminate it by them either. I don't think they do that in every county.
