I received my C&R recently and I plan on using it ASAP. What information needs to be recorded for each firearm I purchase with the license? Also, do I need to record non-C&R purchases in the book?

My advice:

send brownells a copy of your licence today. Get on their dealer list. I think I did it by email but maybe not.

Then order their bound book. They are $3 or so.

you don't need to but it is easier.

The C&R handbook you received will show you an example of what data needs to be recorded in the book. As for non-C&R firearms, they do not need to be recorded.

I recently renewed my C&R for the first time. So, after having had it for three years I only just ordered my first C&R-eligible rifle.....however, I've been able to make good use of the discounts I get from MidwayUSA, & Brownells by having my C&R on file with them. In my opinion a C&R FFL is always money well spent!

One thing to add *** The ATF now requires you to state manufacturer or country of origin AND importer or import marks. If your firearms you log have any import marks. This is fairly new, and the sample page that was linked above says "or," they now want BOTH.

Not really true. The law and the regulation always required both. The heading shown in the regulation has always been misleading by saying "manufacturer and/or importer." If you go to the text of the regulation it has always said that you must record "the name of the manufacturer and importer (if any)."

An inspector may let you get away with recording the import mark, since import mark cross reference tables can be hard to find, but the regulation requires the name of the importer. I have made entries such as "importer unknown" when there is no import mark or recorded the import mark with a notation "name unknown." I use the logic that I have, at least, addressed the issue.
