I recently got my C&R, even used it to purchase a couple of rifles. No questions about them going into the Bound Book.

I also own 2 other firearms that qualify as C&R weapons-a Yugo M48A that I bought from a gun shop, and an Ithaca M1911A1 that I bought from a retired Army Colonel. Do these also have to go in the book?

You don't have to.

Some do it anyway.

Your private collection and C&R acquired collection are seperate. Only the
ones purchased with the license need to go in the bound book.

If you own them before you got your C&R then they do not have to be logged in.However if you should ever sell them to a C&R holder on the stregnth of his license then they do have to be logged out thru your book.

Just for simplicity, I log all of my C&R firearms in the book, regardless of how or when I purchased them. If you give up your 03-FFL, you are not required to send your bound book to ATF like a regular dealer, so there really is no reason not to log them.

I didn't log the ones that I had before I had the FFL into my book. However it is my understanding that I have to log them out if I ever decide to sell them (I don't plan on it).

Yet more .gov things that make you scratch your head.

While you are licensed, you must log all C&R transactions. It doesn't matter if you used you license to purchase them or to whom you transfer them.

BATF has stated this several time in different letters that it is required by 27CFR178.124(f) which reads: " Each licensed collector shall enter into a record each receipt and disposition of firearms curios or relics."

There is no exemption for firearms acquired without "using" your license. As far as BATF is concerned, you do not use your license. You are licensed.
