I've read the 18-page thread over at arfcom (http://www.ar15.com/lite/topic.html?b=6&f=14&t=174340) with information about getting a C&R license, but I wanted to pose the question here, too. How long is it currently taking to get your C&R license?

I've seen anywhere from two weeks to six months. Geography seems to play into it somewhat. With the upcoming election, I wonder if the volume of applications has increased? FWIW, I dropped my App in the mail today. Any information is very much appreciated.

I got mine in like 24 days, from the time I dropped it in the mail to the time I had the license in my hand.

Thanks. What part of the Country are you in? I've read that *supposedly* if your state has less restrictive gun laws, the process is generally smoother. Several folks in states like NY, NJ and CA reported unusually long wait periods for their licenses. Could it have to do with the workload of a particulater ATF agent for that region? I'm definitely anxious, but 24 days doesn't sound like it fell into the blackhole of the ATF/.gov to me. Hopefully we are all as fortunate.

Maybe one of our members who happens to work for the ATF would fill us in?

These replies are encouraging. I ordered the C&R kit from RK Enterprises awhile back. The whole package sat buried for a couple months. I finally decided to fill it out and send it off. I've heard Midway and others are "worth the discount after your first order".

Do all you Crufflers use your license more for collecting or just getting discounts from Midway, etc?

Duke, that is the exact site I referenced while filling out the ATF paperwork. It is excellent indeed. I especially like all the information that can be found for specific C&R firearms. It's almost like an encyclopedia for C&R's.

Not Long

Mine took less than 30 days to get here to Virginia earlier this year. I only got it for the discounts at Grafs. Midway's discount is a joke and I feel their shipping is very high. Set up a dealer account at Grafs and keep a few people employed there. Well worth the $30 for the three years.

I already have an M44 and an SKS, I'm definitely interested in other C&R pistols like Tokarevs, CZ's, and possibly a Nagant Revolver. All seem highly appealing. Any that use common surplus ammo is a definite plus.

It's good to know folks are getting their licenses in a timely manner. I'm currently trying to get mine renewed. The last time it took about two weeks, this time it's been 4 months and counting. :(

I use mine (when I have one) for both collecting and discounts. It's good for both! I'm beginning to really miss not having one. I've been having an itch for a MN 91/30 with a Hex Receiver. Can't scratch yet though.

Exactly two weeks round trip from my mailbox. This was about two months ago in Tennessee. I also think it matters on your name and background. If your name is John Smith and you have some background issues it is going to take longer than if your name is Bobaba Whozzeezwhatsit with a clean record.

i mailed it... 1 week later they cashed my check (on april 22) ...I just got my license and books and stuff last week. :-/

Two weeks to five months. :uhoh: Jeez. Well hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones. Never heard the name-factor mentioned before.

Since I whined about the renewal delay yesterday its only fair that I give an update on the action today.

I called the ATF again this morning and left another message. I just got off the phone from the call back and was told the license was sent out today. There was no explanation for the delay but I imagine that sucker was lost on somebody's desk somewhere in Atlanta until the cage was properly rattled. The interesting thing was that my call had actually been directed to somewhere in Virginia, not Georgia. The woman who called back was in Virginia but had called my district representative in Atlanta and got some action. (I hope) We'll see if the license shows up next week. Right now, I'm hopeful!

Time to start looking for a Hex-Receiver 91/30. :D
