C&R License

If you enjoy old stuff, like milsurp it is nice. Also several on line sources for gun related parts an compenents give you a discount. You can also buy on line and have firearms shipped to you direct. I think it is worth it.

It usually pays for itself the first gun purchase. Get it and don't look back.

First of all, it's $30 for 3 years, and secondly yes, it's well worth it.

The paperwork is very minimal. I have documentation for my normal guns anyway, so C&R guns are no problem.

Buy $100 worth of stuff from Brownells once you get it and it will have just paid for itself. Seriously.

C & r

Yep its worth it, just plan on expanding your collection, whether you want to or not, the deals will keep pouring in, while you didn't think you needed it, you will soon realize you do, as it fits that perfect spot over there by the fn49, and that enfield, needs a cousin, and an aunt,
Well, I've had one for years, only limitions I've found are my $$$ available and places to hide and or place the newbies, till I can incorporate them into the nest.
Best damm 30 bucks I ever spent.
Records are easy, go to Cruffler.com (old site, might not even still be up) and down load the sheets to keep track of your goodies.
I keep it in a 3 ring binder, only because I have to keep addding more and more pages, put them in the see thru sleeves so I can peruse the list and see if I already own one,
heheeh,
you gonna be broke.
:uhoh:

Totally worth it. Even if you never buy a mil-surp, the FFL discounts from Midway and others really add up. Don't expect major savings, but 5% here, 10% there, occasionally 15-20%, it blows past the $10/yr cost of entry REALLY fast. ;)

EDIT: +1 on records being easy. Download/print a blank "page", get gun, write it down, repeat from step 1 or 2 as necessary. :)

If you never buy a gun with the license, no paperwork needed.

Get it! Like what's been said, the discounts more than cover the fee. To be honest, I thought I'd be buying many of the oldies but goodies. In reality, with the license a little more selective.:)

uhhh

MY advice, is if you get it, make sure you have some extra cash around because you will use it and come up with reasons to use it!

:)

I made the 30 dollars back on the last two orders at Midway. Stocking up on high capacity mags. Just in case you know who gets elected. Kinda like IBTL

I believe a C&R also precludes you from needing a background check when purchasing a (modern) firearm, though it can be a hassle convincing 01 FFLs of this. True?

Nope--nothing is further from the truth. In fact, MANY type 1's won't transfer a C/R weapon to a type 3 'on their license' and require them to go through the 'normal' procedure non-licensees must follow.

If that bothers you--buy elsewhere. For me, I don't care about the paperwork, etc. --but I WON'T suffer someone I'm dealing with to tell me WHAT I can and can't *DO* with a C/R license---I can read the *&^%$ regulations and don't need a stool jockey to pontificate and hold forth for my bennefit.

Yes--get the type 3 C/R--but be ready to READ THE MATERIAL PROVIDED so you know how to comply with the regs.

I was thinking about getting it, but I rent so I usually end up moving every year when the landlord tries to jack up the rent on me. Is this a big problem with the C&R?

I changed address once ten years ago. I don't remember it being a BIG problem, but there was an applicable form and there might have been a fee to make the switch to new address. $10. kinda' rings in memory but I really don't remember.

Dealers are generally UNimpressed with your C&R, and there are some who seem to feel that it causes them to lose money somehow. When buying a non C&R gun I don't even bring up the C&R.

It doesn't relieve the waiting periods for non C&R guns in your state.

Be prepared for gunbroker and auction arms sellers refusing to honor your C&R even in cases where the firearm you want from them is clearly C&R eligible. It's their choice and some of them won't want to bother looking a gun up to determine C&R eligibility.

Many of them won't take any chances in your behalf and I don't blame them for that. There have been C&R abuses in internet sales. Things like C&R holder's licenses being sent for the purchase of a gun by a unlicensed friend in what amounts to a straw purchase, and a bunch of other types of unauthorized use that could put everyone involved, including the seller into the slammer or cause loss of business capability and big, big penalties with even bigger legal fees.

BATF provides a mechanism for a seller to verify an 01 license but it isn't provided for a C&R.

Midway's 'dealer pricing' is a joke. Most things the price is same as retail and most discounting is less than a dollar off. Brownell's is usually better, but their prices are high to begin with. On balance, if you are a good shopper you can do just as well or even better by buying from places other than those that give a discount for your C&R.

Ok question here. I'm thinking about a C&R but im only 19... any problems there?

I have my C&R and I sent several letters to companies asking for flyers and any discounts and have gotten very little back. Any tricks of the trade or companies to deal with. I really am looking for cheaper reloading components. Thanks Mac
