i got the C&R paperwork in the mail yesterday. Last night I was on midwayusa.com trying to find any info on discounts available, but couldn't find any info. There was some "Dealer" info, but nothing about discounts. Besides, a C&R isn't a dealer license anyway.

I'm debating getting a C&R license, but first I would like to know "what's in it for me?", besides being able to order old guns that is...
Does anyone know if midway offers a C&R discount? and if so, is it on everything, or not?

thanks!

Yes, they do - they'll even send you a "Dealer Master Catalog". There may be a few things that aren't discounted, but the vast majority of their items do.

Ditto for Brownells.

HTH,

The CR is a dealer's license, its an 03 FFL, just you cant make a profit to support anything but your habit.

I just got finished sending out my "please give me discounts and/or special offers" letters, cant weight for the postwoman to start hating me.

The discounts are pretty great. Of course I've been spending more that I would have otherwise...

MIdway, Brownells, Century all offer discounts to C&R holders Send them a copy of your license then call to set up your account.

Don't forget www.aimsurplus.com

I just got my C&R today and already faxed out my license to any place that said they took faxes on their website... I have no idea what kind of discounts I'll get from anyone yet.

I do know I got an SKS ordered today... 133 bucks to my door. Cheapest decent yugos in my area are around 170 unless you get a busted up one. Think I made my 30 bucks back in one day :D

I'm a former FFL holder (late 1980's). I noticed some questions on the C&R form about that. Hopefully no prob there.

Question on ordering old guns: I work all day, unfortunately... and my wife works too usually. I'm worried about getting guns delivered and left on my porch while nobody's home.

I saw the other thread here where everyone is bitching about delivery companies...
I don't have a favorite company, I dislike them all.

I would think that if everything was up to snuff when you left the business, you'd be okay.

I was in a similar situation. I had an FFL in the mid 1970's. I honestly cannot recall if I ever made use of it, and told them that when I sent in for the FFL03. I got the FFL03 within three weeks, so I guess it didn't matter.

When my business ended, I turned in the bound book and everything else I was supposed to. I did everything 'by the book" and had no problems at any time.

Ok, I'm gonna probably fill out the form tonight and mail it off !!!!

what about my "delivery" questions ?

We NEED a C&R Forum on THR so this kind of question can be made a sticky!

I requested a C&R forum a couple weeks ago, but no one else thought we needed one. Its my main interest.

I placed a small order at Midway today. With the FFL you do save a good chunk of change. Also ordered an M44 and M38 from I/O. My wife is gonna crap her pants when all these guns show up. :what:

Like an 01, you'll have to send in a copy of your 03 to Midway (and others) to get those discounts. When you send it in to Midway, just make a note with it stating your e-mail address and they'll set you up at their end so you'll be able to see dealer pricing on their website after you set up your account. The price breaks on the higher end Leupold scopes is huge.

ok, thanks. I mostly order reloading supplies from Midway - brass, bullets, and everything else.

Guess I'll send the C&R application in, and just wait...

That's because that question has been asked several times before and always got denied.
Read here:

and some others:

I would suggest that any C&R threads contain "C&R" in the Title to make a search easier.

Well, I just looked over the application form, and... it sucks !! Seems I must also send the forms to the chief LEO of the area where my "business" is located. What #@$%$! business?!

I've been collecting c&r's for 20 years, without any "forms" anywhere.

Forget it

Actually the form says "premises" not "business".
I've been collecting c&r's for 20 years, without any "forms" anywhere.
so all your purchases were from private sellers, in your State of residence?

Sending the forms to the Chief LEO is just notification. They don't do anythig with them. I asked my Sheriff's office when I picked up my CCW, they just file it, in my case with the rest of the papers (class cert., application, etc.) for my CCW.

FWIW I saved the cost of the license on the first rifle I bought. The FFL I use for transfers charges $30. Stuff I was going to buy from Midway and Brownells, I now get the dealer price on, so I've saved even more.

hmmm... actually I meant that I've been collecting for 20 years, without me having to file any forms anywhere. Didn't mean that I've never filled out those "yellow" forms.
Most of my c&R purchases have been from old dudes at flea markets, or guys at gun shows. Filled out the yellow form one time on a C&R only, other times no.

Ok, now that I'm cooled down, I'll look over the form again later. Is the cheif LEO the county sheriff? I'm in a city - San Antonio.

If you buy supplies from the aformentioned vendors in any quantity you will recoup your license costs in no time at all. Midway example:

Hornady Bullets 30 Caliber (308 Diameter) 150 Grain FMJ Boat Tail Box of 100
Dealer Price: $10.09
Retail Price $16.29

Not all discounts are this much, some are more, some have no discount. You get the idea though yes? The other advantage is dealer flyers from companies such as SOG, AIM Surplus, and Century. These sometimes show more than is available online, especially SOG. In the case of Century it's the only way you can see their prices online although you can usually get better prices on their products from the others after they have bought bulk from Century and priced them.

As for shipment. It seems to depend a lot on the local delivery people in your area. The majority of rifle shipments are sent via UPS. I have contacted my local UPS delivery center and had myself put on a list to hold all deliveries to my house for the same reason you cite. Nobody there anyway. I find this system only works some of the time so I make sure to get a tracking number for all gun shipments to my house. I then call the local UPS center (You have to pry this number from them as they usually don't give the local number out) the day before the package is due and let them know I have a package coming the next day. I then go to the delivery warehouse and pick it up. They have regular hours posted but after those hours you can go around back and get the package from the folks prepping the next day's deliveries. Pistols get sent FEDEX overnight typically so you can get a hold of them and put a hold there as well.

If you have any other more specific questions feel free to PM me and I'll try to help out.

If you are the type who would like to refrain from documenting your firearms purchases to the government, then the C&R (and any other firearms license) will not be for you. You would have to not only record your purchases you made with the C&R but also for any C&R eligible firearm you purchase while your license is active even though you did not use it to buy the C&R eligible firearm. This record is subject to review by the ATF at any time (that you schedule with them). You do not, however, have to record any non-C&R eligible firearm you purchase.

This may sound scary but most folks have not heard first hand of any C&R holder ever being visited. That is, it is a rare occurance. If you have your book in order, should not be a problem. If you don't like remote likelihood of the ATF going through your stuff, could be a problem.

I sent in my letter to my local city police department. IIRC, sending it in to the county sheriff is OK, but don't hold me to it.

Hornady Bullets 30 Caliber (308 Diameter) 150 Grain FMJ Boat Tail Box of 100
Dealer Price: $10.09
Retail Price $16.29

that's a hell of a discount. I could shoot my garand & '03 alot more!!

About the CLEO to send it to, just ask yourself, "Who comes to the door if I call 911?"

If it's a police officer, send it to the Police Chief.

If it's a deputy, send it to the County Sheriff.

Basically if you live in the limits of a city that has a police department, which I assume San Antonio does, you should send the second copy to the Chief.

This site has lots more C&R info, including a list of places that you should send signed copies of your license for discounts and the like. But double-check the addresses first since that list is a bit dated.

And remember this, if nothing else: DO NOT sign your original license when you get it! Make lots of copies and sign them in blue or red (or any non-black) ink as needed.
