well i filled everything out, sent in the letters/forms/checks and today i recevied my application back that i sent to the BATFe in Dallas Texas said the place was closed adn to return to sender! what gives? that was the address on the forms is there another address that is now in use?

the address on the form i got off cruffler.com was to Dallas, but they said something bout calling ATL? but then turned around and said send to address on the forms! lol

The applications you find on the web are old and not valid. Go here http://www.atf.gov/dcof/index.htm and click F 7CR (5310.16) - Application for License (Collector of Curios and Relics) Under 18 U.S.C. Chapter 44, Firearms over on the right side of the screen. Maybe order 2, use the extra if you make a mistake or give it to a friend.

Previous posters are correct . You now need to order the get the form from ATF and send it off to Atlanta.

I just sent in my app as well.
How long does it generally take to get the license back fron ATF?

I had a class 1 FFL until the laws were dramatically changed, I gave it up March 1995.

90+ days back in 2000. Probably quicker now. Renewals take <30 days.

Sucked back then, because I missed out on a Portuguese CETME for ~$200 while waiting for the license to come in. I really wanted it too.

I sent my C&R in at the end of Feb. and called them around March 17th and they said they received my application and gave me my file number and said they are running around 90 days to complete applications.

One of the questions they asked on the app was: Have you ever held an FFL before.
It said a YES answer could be a reason to deny a C&R license.
Anyone know why?:(

They are trying to weed out those folks that might have dropped their Type 01 Dealer FFL and are getting a Type 03 C&R FFL with the intention of doing business using it.

Apparently there used to be a significant issue with FFL Dealers dropping down to a C&R FFL but still running a business, just dealing with C&R weapons. This obviously isn't the BATFE's intent for the C&R FFL, so they do a slight bit more due diligence for ex-FFLs before granting them a C&R.

When last I spoke to BATFE about this issue, and this is going back a few years, they mentioned that they might look a little closer at someone who applied for a C&R FFL only days after turning in/losing their Dealer FFL. Likewise, someone whose C&R FFL renewal said they acquired/disposed of several thousand firearms might get the hairy eyeball as someone who continued dealing as a business concern on their C&R FFL.

I haven't seen or heard of any denials or revocations due to this issue in a long while, I believe it is mostly a holdover these days.

I've always included my letter about previous FFL 01 experience and never had a problem with my C&R issuance.
