So, I have a friend's beater C96 to fix back up to shooting condition for him, and the gun either needs a new sear spring (hammer pin) or a new disconnector as the disconnecter slips off the spring. I don't have another C96 available to check which part is the worn one, and would prefer not to order both parts from GPC unless I absolutely have to. (Very pricey parts!)

Can anyone with a broomhandle measure the spring length, or the disconnecter for me?

If it matters, it is a Post-War Commercial New Safety model. Thanks!

abloy, i have one but have never had it apart or fired it. Don't have a manual either. Now I have these two tabs right above grip I can pull the trigger assembly back but it stops. Hesitste to go any further. Let me look around the web for manual and I'll get you those measurements.

By my measurement, the top leaf, the sear/disconnector spring, is 1.049" from its tip to the rounded end (measured parallel to the barrel); the lower arm, the takedown latch spring, is .702" long.

The sear is .351" across at its widest point and the "shelf" for the spring is just about .119" deep.

The longest portion of spring which actually engages disconnect measures 1.036" on mine. Not sure what dimension you need for disconnect, but I'll leave it apart if you need more.

This is a cool pistol. Never had it apart before. I know it's ammo dependent, but what kind of accuracy can I expect? Guessing should load it "lite" as well eh? Pretty awkward grip on this bugger. Yep she goes with me next range trip.

Wow, thanks for tearing your guns apart and measuring!!!

On the C96 in question, the "shelf" on the disconnector for the spring is about 0.116" deep, and the spring, measured with calipers reaches about 1.050" from the pin edge to the tip. Since this is pretty close to Jim's measurement, I'm wondering if the sear or lockframe is out of spec.

Ideas?

abloy, I'm gonna defer to Jim Keenan on that one. He clearly has a better handle on this. Was all I could do to tear it apart and get it back together again. I can send you some closeup pics of disconnect and spring if that will help.
