Sacramento Valley shooting Center is one of the best ranges in CA. Due to the CA DOJ's support of two anti-gun bills. The range has suspended their use of the range :) :) Here's a link containing the letter they sent.

I'd like to see EVERY gunshop, gunsmith, shooting range, etc. in California cut off ALL business dealings with ALL law enforcement. Only when we are all in the same boat will it be possible to end the crap.

Someone needs to get the Lincoln rifle range to do the same - it's a private facility.

Did the DOJ ever use this range, officially? I think this is a fantastic gesture, but it's probably an empty, meaningless one.

Even if they did use this range, they'll use this as an excuse to take tax dollars to build themselves a no-public-allowed range for themselves.

I heard Richmond R&G had done something similar in the past; basically kicking out people who had identified themselves as DOJ staff.

Building a range is not as easy as it sounds, even if the government agency has unlimited access to tax dollars.

My old department lost the use of the county owned range when the Board of Supervisors decided it was unsafe. For a period, the department was able to use the range at the state prison, but eventually the prison firearms training staff was unable to meet their training requirements and accommodate the department.

The department has looked at several possible sites for a new range, but lack of money, environmental protection concerns, and hostile neighbors have shot down every one. Currently the department is contracting with two gun clubs to use their ranges. If the department ever lost access to those club ranges, it would be in serious trouble.

"Maybe this is a trend!"

One can hope. A more likely scenario is that illegal narcotics will be "found" in such a fashion that a given range, singly or collectively owned, could be seized under the various state and federal anti-drug laws. Then, said range continues in operation for state employee use only.

Yes this is tin-foil hat paranoia. But then look at Martha Stewart and what happened to her and her company.

This is an admirable gesture. At this point, (depending on imapct to DOJ training) it is probably meaningless, but if it inspires other business owners and facilities to do the same it is invaluable.

This is great!

I devoutly hope ammunition manufacturers will make it clear that they will not sell to law enforcement agencies within the state of California until this nonsensical bill is withdrawn from consideration.

Why stop here? Firearms merchants and service providers should boycott and refuse sales to ALL govt agencies and employees until CA completely withdraws its oppression of CA gunowners. This bullet engraving plan is just the latest in a long series of abuses that the CA govt has perpetrated against us. We need to rewind things back to the 70s in this country.

We as gun owners should boycott any manufacturer or reseller that does not comply with such a plan. I will start sending out emails to all the online stores that I do business with and post any replies I get back. I suggest all of you do the same.

This is the easiest thing in the world to accomplish guys. Everyone is either with us or against us and all we have to do is send a few emails.

We can start with the CA govt. If this plan is successful, we can begin to apply pressure to the federal govt as well.

Amen. Good move. Thumbs up to 'ya.

But here's what gets my goat: They say that they "will oppose, to any extent necessary, your attempts to deny us the ability to enjoy our sport."

:banghead: This isn't about enjoying a sport!!!!! It's about enjoying life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness! It's about rights! This isn't about California outlawing 7 irons, so Pebble Beach quits letting government politico golf there. Whenever firearms are defended in the name of sport or hunting, it implicitly endorses the idea that gun control might be OK it it were effective in reducing crime. There are thousands of potential laws that would effectively reduce crime, but we don't enact them because they would infringe on individual, Constitutionally-protected rights (at least those liked by the ACLU).

SACRAMENTO, Calif., June 8 /U.S. Newswire/ -- A shooting range here has announced a ban on use of its shooting facilities by employees of the California Department of Justice because the Department is supporting two bills in the State legislature that the club opposes.

The bills represent groundbreaking new ballistic identification systems which would give police new crime solving tools. Each would set up systems for markings on gun ammunition in California that would help law enforcement investigators track down the perpetrators of shootings that might otherwise remain unsolved. One bill (AB 352) would require handguns to include a device that stamps a specific number on bullets that are fired by that handgun, while the other (SB 357) would require that ammunition manufacturers mark ammunition with a serial number for potential tracking.

The bills have the support of the California DOJ. No California law enforcement organizations oppose the measures. In a letter to California Attorney General Bill Lockyer, Thomas S. Hause, President of the Folsom Shooting Club, which operates the Sacramento Valley Shooting Center outside Sacramento, wrote "The Board of Directors of the Folsom Shooting Club (FSC) has directed me to advise you, in writing, that Department of Justice staff, while acting in their official capacity, are suspended from using the Sacramento Valley Shooting Center (SVSC). The FSC is concerned that your staff will further your efforts regarding AB 352 and SB 357 while using our facility."

Leaders of the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence and the Million Mom March are urging the club to drop the policy immediately. "It is offensive that the owners of this shooting range would rather side with criminals than with law enforcement and victims, not to mention that they are discriminating against people simply because they have a different view on legislation," said Amanda Wilcox, State Council Leader of the Million Mom March. "It is also very troubling when it is law enforcement agents who are using the facility for training purposes."

"What's next - should police who support sensible gun laws have their firearms taken away? This is un-American, and these guys ought to have their heads examined," said Jim Brady, chair of the Brady Campaign.

The move has generated a great deal of activity on internet chat sites. On one site, a person who self-identifies as a member of the Folsom club wrote "Our range relies on law enforcement agencies, mainly the California Dept of Corrections, for a large part of our revenue. So this is no small thing to do."

Another chat posting read "Every gun store, gun manufacturer, equipment supplier, and range should boycott all law enforcement sales and support." Another read "If more companies would make this stand and simply say 'if you're going to make it hard for the public to own firearms then we aren't going to assist you in arming yourself against them' maybe the balance would shift." Yet another read "We should ask our respective gun clubs to ban all law enforcement (not just the CA DOJ) from using their ranges as a training ground or for their pistol qualifications. We'll see how far that goes." (See the letter and the comments at http://calguns.net/eve/ubb.x/a/tpc/f/545600176/m/29010985521)

The state Assembly has passed AB 352, which would give police the ability to match bullet shells at the scene of a crime to the gun that fired the bullet. A day later, the State Senate passed SB 357, the bill that will require that all handgun bullets have a serial number that identifies the purchaser. These "cutting edge" proposals are important, powerful tools for police and other states may follow suit. AB 352 now moves to the State Senate and SB 357 now moves to the Assembly.

In 2003, there were nearly 1,600 handgun homicides in California. In a typical year in California, no arrest is made in almost half of the state's homicides because police lack enough evidence to find the murderer.

As the nation's largest, non-partisan, grassroots organization leading the fight to prevent gun violence, the Brady Campaign, working with its dedicated network of Million Mom March Chapters, is devoted to creating an America free from gun violence, where all Americans are safe at home, at school, at work, and in our communities

"What's next - should police who support sensible gun laws have their firearms taken away?

At least they got one thing right......even if they dont know it.

In answer the their question. "Yes" The should. When the authorities try to take you're guns away they're known as Tyrants.

Ive seen these "sensible gun laws" in action before, and I fully support taking away the guns of cops who support them.

Once only the outlaws have guns, guns wont be outlawed for long.

As the nation's largest, non-partisan, grassroots organization leading the fight to prevent gun violence,
Look how they try and twist things around. Non-partisan ? Please.
Interesting they don't mention the gangsters and other criminal element
who are truly the ones causing all the crime and the majority on murders.

Why go after law-abiding gun-enthusiasts ? Whatever happened to
hiring more police ? NY has pretty close to twice the amount of police
L.A has doesn't it ? Yet here is a state that wants to award illegals
who many times are at the very core of these crime sprees..

I'm glad it got the gun-banishment front's attention. It's about time
people heard from the pro-gun side, instead on nibbling on the cheese
the anti's feed em..We haven't done a DA*N THING WRONG !

not to mention that they are discriminating against people simply because they have a different view on legislation,"
Pot calling the kettle black?

to include a device that stamps a specific number on bullets that are fired by that handgun
She either: a) hasn't read the bill; b) is an ignoramous; c) believes that all of her followers are too stupid to understand an accurate explanation of the bill; or d) all of the above.

What is a "bullet shell"? :scrutiny:

This is un-American, and these guys ought to have their heads examined," said Jim Brady,
We have a winner for the ironic statement of the year award. He was later quoted as saying, "Why, I have half a mind to . . ."

I know. Low road. But you can't just let these gems lie there!

Please reveal you membership numbers, Sarah.

unbelievable

What's next - should police who support sensible gun laws have their firearms taken away? This is un-American, and these guys ought to have their heads examined," said Jim Brady, chair of the Brady Campaign.

Yet, he and his buddies think non-LE people who oppose the Brady version of "sensible gun laws" should have their firearms taken away (i.e., "gun nuts").
