Want a non microstamped, .50BMG, full auto pistol in California? Become a LEO and all the gun world is yours for the asking. Yes that is silly, but you get the point.

.50BMG Ban? Not if you are a LEO!

The pistol you want is not on the CA "Safe Handgun" list? So what? CA LEOs can have ANY handguns they want imported into the state. Standard capacity magazines included of course.

Want a banned "Assault" rifle? Become a LEO and you can have them.

Want to get some brand new 30 round mags for your AR? Become a LEO and you can get as many as you want.

Are you just a law abiding citizen? Well too bad. The good stuff is saved for the upper class.

I am actively job seeking outside of the PRK.

Nope, I'm an IT Project Manager for very large (multi-million dollar) projects. Hell, I'd take an operations manager job at this point if it got me out of the state.

Thanks for asking.

Yeah right! Sorry but I've had LEO's contact me that have purchased .50's from Barrett since the ban went into effect.

Good luck getting one from Barrett.

I noticed recently on one of their ads that they won't sell or service to LEO's in CA since the common folk can't get them. Thought that was great.

Ronnie Barrett is a great defender of the 2A, he even took a hit to the pocket in order to not tolerate civil-rights erosion. We can all learn a lesson from him.

not big news. MA is like that too.

When did the law change? Seem to remember a LEO near
Fresno that was charged over registration of SKS. Doesn't
matter as California is truely a different country. Don't let
this happen to your state!!!!

LEOs can have banned AWs so long as their captains sign off on it. I have a friend who is a cop, and he would love to own an SKS, but he can't because his Captain will only sign off on an AR-15, which is what the department uses.

I *think* (but am not sure) that similar rules apply for owning pistols that do not appear on the CA "safe handgun list."

The fact that there's a LEO exemption for microstamping is probably going to be the focus of at least one lawsuit in this state. At least, that's my expectation. If microstamping is such a great safety feature, then there can be no justification for the LEO exemption. They'll just make a 14th amendment equal protection argument, then LEO will be forced to buy microstamped guns, and then the microstamping law will become history in short order. Or that's the theory anyway.

CA could (in the 9th Circuit) get around the LEO/non-LEO lawsuit by merely stating that LEOs are exempt because
(1) the law is targeting criminals, and
(2) LEO's aren't criminals.

Presto! A "rational basis" to discriminate against non-LEO's, and thus pass rational-basis scrutiny.

Very little of that is true don't forget.

All Barrett Firearms says is that they will not sell directly to LEAs in CA.

Their distributors can and have and continue to do so.

While it's a nice gesture, the reality is that no CA LEA has gone without any rifles, parts or service, they just paid a higher price to buy from a distributor.

AK maybe?

SKS, at least the fixed-mag issue-stock versions, are not California 'assault weapons'.

That was changed back in March. LEOs no longer need the agency letter I'm pretty sure.

Librarian, didn't you post something to that effect recently? I may not be remembering this correctly.

Exactly and normal citizens are....criminals that is.

It's sad when you express your annoyance over this to a fellow gun owner, and he says "what's the matter, don't you like cops?" :banghead:

That is for off-roster handguns and standard cap mags. AW's still need the letter.

Correct.

My buddy is a San Diego Sherriff Deputy and from what I've heard, the Department wont give deputies authoraztion to buy AR-15s. They do get issued one for the patrol vehicle though.
