The wife and I took a trip to the Cabela's in Hamburg PA today and I could not believe it! They had more rifle powder on the shelf than I've seen it 2 years. There was not a flake of pistol powder but plenty of rifle powder. Most of the powder was in 1lb bottles but some of the IMR powders were in 8lb bottles too. There were more than a case of each in the 1lb bottles.

Hodgdon:
H414 - Varget - H1000

Accurate:
5744 - 4064 - 2495 - 2520

Alliant:
1200-R - 2000-MR - 4000-MR - RL-33

Norma:
200 - 202 - MRP

IMR:
4227 - 4895 - 4320 - 4350 - 7828 - XBR-8208

They also had primers from Winchester, CCI, Remington and Federal. They had all the flavors too including Federal Gold Metal Match primers and the large and small BR primers from CCI. The only ones missing were the CCI NATO primers. Prices were between $31 and $35 with the CCI BR primers going for a very high price of $52.

As for bullets they were a little more lean on them. There were the common sizes in Berry's, Rainier and Laser Cast with a fair number of FMJ bullets from Remington in 9mm, 40 S&W and 45 Auto. There were some Sierra rifle bullets and more Hornady bullets but not much else.

The shelves were PACKED full of all ammo except for 22LR or 22 Mag of course. There was 17 Magnum ammo from Winchester and Hornady. Plenty of .380 Auto ammo too... They even had some SD ammo on the shelf instead of only FMJ ammo. Prices IMO were way too high but then again, prices have been high for a long time now.

All I bought was 2 pounds of AA5744 since that was the only rifle powder I was short on. I also bought a few boxes of Hornady XTP/HP bullets for loading the 45 Auto and 9mm. I picked up a RCBS #16 shellholder for loading 9mm cases which completed my buy.

Same at Cabela's in Greenvile, SC last I looked. The LGS same thing, where rifle has never been completely off the shelf.

They have them priced at what the market will bear without being too low so the hoarders don't clean them out. Once folks start buying what they actually want and need and not just anything in huge quantities, things will start to get back to a new normal

What surprised me most was the fact Varget was available. There must have been 20lbs on the shelf all in 1lb bottles. Varget was very popular before the shortage and sometimes hard to find.

There must have been 250,000 Winchester primers for sale and at least 100,000 each of the other 3 brands. The supply of primers looked like it did back in 2007 except for the prices of course.

All we now need is for the shotgun/pistol powders to come back and maybe the market will stabilize.

The PA store has been stocked w/ that amount of primers for almost a year now. Last time I was there the powder was on one of the small displays in the center of an aisle. Needless to say they didn't have much but that was months ago. And while their prices are high they are consistent. They were the same price pre Sandy Hook as well as before Obama was first elected. They haven't raised prices which is good. And when they run a sale on CCI primers they are only a few dollars more than PV.

What bothers me is they constantly move items around in the store. It's to get you to look at more items while trying to fine what you want. The reloading section used to be four full isles. Last time I was there it was only two.

Our local Cabela's is pretty much the same. Lots of goodies except .22 ammo of any kind. That's a dangerous place for me to go - last time I was in there I came out with a wonderful 1944 Finnish Mosin 91/30. $250, I couldn't pass it up!

Oh, a jug of IMR4227 and one of IMR4895 too.

Was just there tonight...they even had CCI Minimags and some Hornady 22 WMR...first minimags I've seen on the shelf anywhere in 2 years

During some recent trips down to Columbus, Ohio I visited the Cabela's and they were pretty well stocked also. Much like everywhere else only 22 LR was missing. They did have the CCI NATO primers reasonable priced.

While they did not have any CCI BR primers out they show them online. The BR 4 are running $52. I have noticed the BR primers are expensive just about everywhere they are available. Natchez $55, Brownells $50, Graf and Sons $230 (for 5K) and the list goes on. They really went up.
