I went to Cabela's yesterday and here is what I saw. Ammo was plentiful, both rifle and handgun but prices were high as usual. There also was rimfire ammo available too but again at a premium. There was one fairly good deal by current standards, the Winchester 333 pack was $19.99. There was a lot of it, a full pallet on the floor. It's the first time I saw that much .22LR ammo in one place since 2008. I bought one and most buyers were taking only 1 or 2 boxes, there was no limit.

Bullets seemed to be plentiful too from Hornady, Sierra, Nosler, Berry's, Reiner and Remington. Primers were available but mostly from Winchester. Prices were again high at between $33 and $37k.

Now for powders. The shelves were full but the stock was mostly Hodgdon/IMR/Winchester. There was nothing from Accurate and one Alliant powder. There was some Norma powder and a few VV rifle powders. They had all the new powders from Hodgdon especially the 4 new IMR Enduron powders. They had AutoComp, CFE-Pistol and W572. The lone Alliant Powder was BE86 and in 1lb and 8lb jugs.

I bought 2x lbs of HS-6 and a pound of W572. Even though I didn't try BE86, AutoComp or CFE-Pistol yet I really wanted to give W572 a try so I bought it. It will be a while before I can shoot anything but when I do I will test 38/357, 9mm, 45 ACP and 45 Colt and see how it does against W231 and HS-6.

I'll be headed to the new one in Ohio next week. Hopefully that have a reasonable stock of 38/357 components. The couple coffee cans of brass I have are calling to be reloaded .

I use autocomp with good results in .45 and 9MM
Here in S.C. the prices are average. Will be going to the local GS tomorrow for some deals. LMAO.

I went to the one in Louisville KY last week .... saw pretty much the same except for the .22 ammo(almost none), very little powder except a few H/IMR, very few primers .... plenty of high prices ....

I wish I had stopped by MidSouth Shooters on the way up or Gamaliel's on the way back home ....

Yeah, I'm betting Midsouth Shooters has much better prices than Cabela's and probably a better selection too.

Was in the little rock Bass Pro and shelves full of ammo, bullets and primers. Decent amount of powder, but nothing under $30 a pound, way steep. Primers $40 a k, Didn't see any 22s.

They just opened a Cabela's up my way in Avon, Ohio. We got a Cabela's Club invite for the evening before the grand opening. The store was smaller then the mid sized Columbus, Ohio location. Unlike other stores I have been in the powder and primers were behind the counter leaving customers with eye strain to read the primers. The powder was not all on one area but over two making it hard to see what they had. I did buy 6 pounds of pwder with 2 Lb each of Tite Group, IMR 4895 and IMR 4064. What they had was abundant but I did not see any AA (Accurate Arms) powders.

There was no shortage of 22 LR and as you mentioned the 333 Winchester was likely the best deal. Nothing was cheap and looking at all the retailers in general ammunition prices have gone up over the past few years. The once $22 brick is now a $30 brick of 500 rounds and that seems to hold true regardless of brand name.

Mid South just had a good deal on powders with a $15 Hazmat if you bought a certain amount so I bought 24 pounds of powder yesterday. I am finally pretty much done and well stocked with my reloading components. :)

It was 15 Lbs and get $15 HazMat, that is still going on. Powders are in the $19.50 to $25.00 per Lb depending and they have good prices on their 8 Lb jugs. They seem to be well stocked too.

Powder prices were not as bad as primer and ammo prices, I was surprised. While not cheap they were not as bad as some I see posted. HS-6 was a little high @$25.99/lb but the newer W572 was better @$21.99/lb.

The 55gr .224" Sierra GameKings I bought were $19.99/100 and the cold Diet Pepsi I bought was fair @$1.59 lol...

I am a sucker for the canned peanuts and jerky which I also bought and my wife got the dogs treats there. The dogs did well with their $7.50 treats. The Butter Peanut Crunch is good stuff. :) Oh yeah, and the beef sticks too.

Arch,

I assume you went to the Hamburg Cabelas. I was debating going there today myself as I have Fridays off but went fishing instead. Did you happen to notice if they had any primers? In particular Federal SPP?

I too went to the Louisville Cabela's. Popular powders especially pistol were few. Only 1 lb. bottles available that I saw. Did not have some sizes of primers and not some brands. Popular bullets scarce, especially jacketed pistol. Not much .22 rimfire and still high prices for what they did have. Cabela's in Louisville is slipping in the reloading department. All kinds of high priced factory ammo. A popular gun shop has more powders than Cabela's. Not enough reloading supplies available in our area but better now than the past few years. Still best to order reloading components on-line even with Haz-mat.

The same day I went to the Louisville KY Cabela's ... I went to the Bass Pro in Clarksville, IN .... pretty much the same results .... except the prices were even higher on powder and primers ... the few they had ....

The Cabela's did have S&B large rifle for $25/1000 ... wished they'd had the SR like they did a while back for $19 ... I had plans for a good haul back to S. GA ... left empty handed ...

I did purchase a couple of RCBS case neck brushes at the Bass Pro ...

They opened a new store about 25 miles from me around April and I have still not been in there . They don't send out any sale fliers like BP and a long time LGS does .

I haven't heard any thing good about my local Cabela's , so it makes me not want to go . Gander Mountain didn't last long here either . The long time LGS moved into their building after they left town and it stays packed now , even with BP about 2 miles from them .

Yes, I was at the Hamburg store. They had mostly Winchester primers but there were a few boxes of Remington primers and a handful of Federal primer boxes both blue and brown. I'm sorry to say I did not look at what type they were because I wasn't looking for primers. Good luck finding what you need but if Federal primers are what you are going there for you might want to call them first. I only saw about 6 boxes, maybe only 5.

If you are talking about the new Cabela's in Short Pump they had a pretty good selection of reloading supplies when I was there last week. I have picked up several pounds of powder, Nosler bullets and CCI small rifle primers in my last 2 visits. You might want to check to make sure you are on their mailing list as I just received a flyer a week or so ago that listed all Nosler reloading bullets for 25% off their regular price. I picked up 750 of the 55 and 60 gr. BT's for around $90 plus tax. We only have a Gander Mountain up this way and their reloading inventory it the worst. What little they have is always priced way over what I have found at Green Top and Cabelas. They may have to restock after this current sale but they had shelves full of 22 LR (of course I was looking for 22 magnums). Anyway, if this is the store you were talking about, for a smaller Cabelas it is currently reloader friendly.

That's better than our local Bass Pro.
Powder is readily available but outrageously expensive.
$28-$35 is the norm.

I've bought primers there a few times as they are normal prices but powder is crazy.

Just got back from the GS. Plenty of powder, ammo reloading supplys etc. Powder goes for 22.00 for HP38 and titegroup and comparable prices for the other powders. S&B primers were 18.00 a K Win. and CCI 30.00

The last time I went to Cabellas (Allen, Texas) on a weekday, they were pretty well stocked on everything, but finding someone to even do something as simple a hand you some powder from the shelf behind the counter involved an hour-long wait.

I'm waiting for the Gander Mountain to open in Frisco, Texas.

Just got back from the LGS. Plenty of ammo and reloading supplys at a fair price. S&B primers LP and SP 18.00 a thou. titegroup and HP38 22.00 a lb. Other powders at comparable prices Win. and CCI were a little higher--30.00 a thou. Everyone there is saying the next CRISES will be ammo.

OK, picked up 3K Federal small pistol primers at a small LGS. He had quite a bit of these primers and a lot of TG, HP-38, W231 a few 1# of Bullseye, BE 86, a lot of Clays, CFE pistol and a few others. Plenty of bullets also.

Well I decided to take a motorcycle ride today and ended up at the new Cabela's in my area . I was not impressed at all . Very small selection of powder & reloading supplies . Very small selection of firearms . I asked to see a synthetic 870 and the associate looked around behind the counter for a few seconds and said they didn't have any , but I could order one and have it shipped to the store . I walked away still looking around and they had 2 synthetic 870's on display just down a few steps from the counter where the sales associate was , but on my side of the counter . They were asking $349 for them , Walmart sells them for $289 , Basspro has them on sale this week for $299 and the LGS has them for $320 .

They did have the biggest selection of .22 ammo that I have seen in a while , I bought 2 boxes and went in the bargain cave and bought a 32 oz. bottle of laundry detergent for $7 dollars . So I wouldn't call it a total disappointment .

I visited Cabelas and Sportsman's Warehouse the other day. Cabela's inventory was spotty, but I managed to score some good sales. That seems to be the norm for the Gonzales LA Cabelas. I also had a coupon for $20 off purchases of more than $150. An example of one of the good deals I got was a 100 round box of .264 caliber 129 grain Long range Accubonds. Marked down from $49 to $34. The coupons and sales make Cabelas an attractive option. Cabela's gives an additional 5% military discount.

Our Sportsman's Warehouse is VERY well stocked. I can find most of what I need there. Prices are in line with Cabela's but I have not found any coupons or sales. I forgot to ask them about a military discount.

I know NE PA is a big place but since I live there too do you care to share where this LGS is located and it's name? Anywhere in the Scranton / Wilkes Barre area?
