FYI. Just got back from Cabela's in Dundee, MI and they had a shelf full of Federal Primers. Large and small rifle and pistol. No CCI at all and the only Winchester's were Shotshell primers. I guess that's a good sign.

I was just in the one in Hoffman Estates Illinois 12 days ago and the whole section of the store where the reloading was at was gone. The whole dept. was moved and consolidated into about 1/2 the area. The shelves there were full and labeled with no space left for primers, which of course there were none. I fear it's going to the Bass Pro Shop model and all primers will be kept behind the counter and primers only sold by the sleeve. Hope I'm Wrong!

I need to do an inventory. I really like Federals for pistol primers, they tend to be more sensitive and that provides a bit of margin in cold weather, and ignition with old mainsprings.

Is there some kind of shortage going on again?? I haven't noticed one where I am.

Only at Cabela's and Everywhere with S&B. Though I believe I've heard S&B is having production and import difficulties with their primers which is too bad because I like them.

Federal SPP's have been a little tough to find for several years... they are much favored by a lot of competitive shooters because their easy ignition means that they can use lighter hammer/striker springs and still pop them reliably. It is common for competitive revolver shooters, or even some DA/SA semi-auto guys, to have guns that will only run 100% when fed federal-primered ammo.

Those tend to be high-volume shooters. With no real substitute goods available, they will quickly buy up the SPP's when they show up.

My local Cabela's has kept primers behind the counter ever since it opened in 2013. Way before BP acquired them.
