Do any of you fellows have experience with the replica BP revolvers from Cabelas? More precisely, the 1860 Colt .44. Are they worth the asking price?

It looks like they have the best price out there. After I saw they didn't have their Colt Walkers on sale, I looked at other sites and found a better price, but they still have a good price on the 1860 Colt Army, even when they're not on sale.
I purchased a Remington 1858 New Army Police Model in .36 caliber from them just a few weeks ago. It's beautifully made and when the price dropped $40 recently they gave me a $40 coupon for future purchases!! I think Cabelas prices are probably the best out there and add to that their superb customer service...you can't go wrong!

i bought my first bp firearm from cabelas (a LeMat) and the fit and finish were average for a pietta product..
what really seperates them from all the others is their commitment to customer satisfaction.. they will go the extra mile every time and that's probably worth a small premium.. plus, they still give "cabela bucks" for every purchase, which can really add up fast in the black powder department.

I bought one of the 1860 Army replicas from Cabela's last year. It is pretty nicely finished and is mechanically good with tight lockup and a good trigger. BUT---- the cylinder is underbored compared to the barrel by several thousands of an inch. I read of others finding this same thing after I purchased mine. I found the correct sized reamer from Brownell's but it and shipping would have been half the cost of the pistol at that time. I honed my cylinder to size but I don't recommend it. I found out later on that the correct size reamer can be obtained from Wholesale Tool Company for just a few bucks. I would post the measurements but I've forgotten them. :banghead:

This Cabela's UBERTI .31 caliber is just a few months old. Everyone was out of stock for months. I was leerie of Cabela's, but this one proved to be a very nice one. Only complaint - I always take my new guns apart and clean them anyway, but this one had several loose screws including the nipples. It must have been hurriedly put together right before quiting time.

Cabelas has always been great for me, good quality and service. I don't think their prices are necessarily high, it's just typically, above average quality, you get what you pay for.
All my fishing, camping and boat gear comes from them. There's occasionally times I'll shop on their site, but find a better price elsewhere, but usually their about the same prices for comparable products.
For BP guns, I really like Taylors out of Virginia, they've hand picked a few for me and have a great quality Uberti line.

They have a club card you can get that's not a credit card. I think it's 2% of purchases made at the store goes onto that card. It's free. I don't have one because I have the credit card. It's actually my only credit card. I use it to fill the gas tank and stuff like that and I get a free box of ammo every now and then. It's not some huge incentive but heck, it's free as long as you pay your bill in full every month.
The special offers like the "bucks" gift cards and stuff are different than the club points.

I bought one of the $199.99 1860 Armys last year. It was here in four days. It is definately worth the price. I've shopped with Cabela's for many years and it is a great company. I've only had problems with two items. They were taken care of quickly and courtesly. They are very good about answering questions about an item before you purchase it too.
After debit cards came out and I learned to use one, my wife took it away from me. Apparently she was tired of getting 27 page bank statements, she didn't appreciate me stopping at the C-Store and buying donuts and chocolate milk with the debit card, go figure. So she takes my debit card and informs me that I can use the Cabela's credit card and she'll just write one check per month.
Skip ahead 7 or 8 years...ALL of our bills, from utilities to groceries get paid for on that Cabela's credit card (1% kickback in points) and she has the Cabela's bill taken directly out of our checking account, no more paper. Now, if you think about how much the average couple will actually spend over the course of a year, those points add up dramatically!!
This isn't something that only we can do, anyone can. The only hard and fast rule is, pay that Cabela's bill off each and every month, otherwise yer points are gonna get eaten up in one months interest. I now get to shop at Cabela's a couple of times per year and purchase things that I otherwise would not have spent the money on.
If you want to give this a try, start small. Put say your electric bill on it, or maybe that and groceries. Once you get used to it and learn not to overspend start adding expenses. Before you know it, Cabela's owes YOU $500 or more!!

A live body answers the phone when you call them instead of machine, the live body is located in the U.S.A. and they speak english. If anything funny happens on your account, they call, RIGHT NOW!!

Cabela's is fine, but what you really need to look at is the difference between Pietta and Uberti. I have a Remingon Uberti, and a Colt Pietta. Fit finish and general overal product, in my book Uberti is the better of the two.

I agree with others that Uberti seems to be made better. However, they are more expensive. I just picked up one of these at Cabelas for $190 with free shipping. The initial run down shows it to be put together fairly well. There is a slight issue with the left grip panel to grip frame interface. I don't think it is as simple as sanding the left grip panel down. Rather it would appear the left side of the grip frame needs to be ground down in spots. I need to take the grip panels off first to determine if that is the case. Either way, for $190 it would appear that it is still a pretty decent deal and worth it.
p.s. Cabelas is da bomb. They have a 100% satisfaction guarantee. This means no money out of your pocket...even shipping costs...if you choose to send it back because of a problem with the product. When Cabelas has sales, like now, and when they have coupons or free shipping it is hard to beat these guys.

Thanks to everyone for the excellent response to my inquiry. I already do a good bit of business with Cabelas and agree with ya'll that they are a class act to deal with.
Just wondered about the quality of their BP revolvers and glad to be getting a big thumbs up from you fellows.

Man, you fellas are gonna make me break down and buy one of those things. I've never fired a BP revolver, but I think it would be awesome. I'm partial to the Navy and Dragoon models, but they're easily had too. One of these days I'm gonna do it.
