Calf Holster Needed

I cannot find anything like this so improvised this one by stuffing my Kel Tec P32 into a knee brace that is over my calf. It happens to be a nice snug fit but at least needs a pocket for the gun, especially since in summer sweat will infiltrate the gun. Does anyone know is such a holster is available? I don't want an ankle holster because the pant cuffs rise up considerably when I sit down and it will be exposed. As this is a BUG I am not so concerned about super quick access. Most ankle holsters I have looked at have a strap with velcro. Wow, that sure will be a noisy giveaway if you are stealthily accessing your gun.

No personal experience to offer but I ran across this: https://bugbiteholsters.com/the-bugbite-holster/ when I was looking for an ankle holster for a J frame. It seems like a commercial version of what you may be looking for as you built it.

In my case I went with a Galco ankle glove that has no thumbstrap. Quiet and fast access, but would not address your pant leg riding up concern.

That bugbite holster might be just what I am looking for. Thanks for the link.

Initial report. I bought the correct size Bugbite holster, size B (13.5 - 15.5 inch calf circumference) to fit my just under 15 inch calf. It is way too tight, left impressions in my leg that took some time to go away, and very difficult to get the holster over my heel to even put it on. It works pretty well though no retention if you go upside down. And it has a magazine pouch. Today I wore it a couple hours with it slid down my leg so it would not be tight, and it worked okay, but an ankle holster was not what I wanted, so it has to go back. It also is made in China.

Meanwhile I found another leg holster that is made in the U.S. of A and am going to order one.

More to come.

The Bugbite holster seems to have loosened up a bit. Been wearing it and it works quite nicely. Just not excited about the imprint it leaves on my leg. A little looser would be nice but I suspect the next size up might be too loose. We'll see how the Alpaca leg holster compares once it arrives.

Appreciate you documenting your experiences with these products. My first "real" use of an ankle holster was going out dressed up for the symphony. This was the Galco I mentioned. I had no issues with it and in fact I really like it for it's specific use, easy access from a seated position. Do have to maintain awareness so as not to expose, a fair tradeoff for the access.

That is where I like the leg holster as the gun rides up on the calf and does not expose when you sit, still would not throw the holstered leg over the other knee. The Alpaca holster arrived today. First impressions are that it is very easy to put on, does not squeeze my leg as it it thinner and stretchier material, though the next size up on the Bugbite holster might be a better fit for me. There are things I like about both of them and, while the Alpaca may feel better, I do like the heavier material of the Bugbite. I noticed my P32 rubbing on my leg a bit in the Alpaca today, but that could be because I had it positioned wrong, or it could be because of the thinner material.

Well I quit wearing the Alpaca holster after two days. I just don't like how the gun slides down into it so far making it very hard to retrieve. Also not comfortable in the thin material preventing an accidental trigger pull if say a stick pushed up there while walking in the woods. I will try the Alpaca when I go into the office where I cannot carry and will use it for my minimalist wallet so that if I were to be robbed on the streets of Detroit I can give up my large wallet which has a lot of cash and an expendable credit card and keep my id etc and spare credit card. The Alpaca would also be good for a flashlight.

I really like the Bugbite holster but it is too tight so I ordered a larger size that I hope will be just right.

I really need to take photographs of both being worn and post them. When I get time--oh that is a funny one. When I think of all the time I wasted during my high school years that I could now use . . .

The larger size Bugbite Holster arrived today and the fit is near perfect. Goes over my heel easily and pulls up so the top is past the wide part of the calf. The Size B was squeezing my leg horribly and would not pull up high enough. This is for my leg with calf measurement of ~14.875" (no not that precise, just to 7/8"). The Alpaca on the left is much stretchier and also fits nicely and has the top part that folds down as a flap over the pouches. Definitely my carry is in the Size C Bugbite. I will use the Alpaca for minimalist wallet, maybe keys and or flashlight.

The Old trick for not exposing the ankle holster is two wear a second sock you pull up over the bottom of the holster. Also keeps dust out a bit better.

And yet another trick with ankle carry is to use a lace up ankle brace and sew a holster on it. Do that and you can run like the wind without your ankle holster flopping around.

I make my own holsters because its really the only way for me. Neoprene is tops for keeping things tight to the body during movement. My running holster is a double thick double wide fat burner belt with a 2rd layer of neoprene sewn on that conforms to the pistol. I ran 15 miles with it on a couple years ago with a Sigma sw9ve and it never moved. Only neoprene can do that.

That bugbite is interesting but that calf strap would probably drive me bonkers. Be pretty funny if someone wore it with a pair of those skinny jeans.

I didn't even notice the top strap. It does not have to be tighter than the holster. Seems superfluous but I suppose if the holster was not as snug the strap would help keep it from slipping down.

I've got a BugBite and it's the ONLY kind of bug bite that doesn't itch. Check out BugBite Holsters. I absolutely love mine when I absolutely have to have protection with me and there's no other place to put it. Works great and stays tight.

Sheesh. Sorry. I skipped down and didn't realize it's already old info.

Not at all, your thoughts on it are welcome and I agree, it is a great holster.

Update. I have not been using the Bugbite leg holster regularly, but off and on. The only problem so far is that a couple times it slid down my leg. I found the strap at the top, if tight enough to hold it in place was going past the Velcro so far that only about and inch of the Velcro adhered and left a lot sticking out beyond. I sewed a tuck into the strap, just before the Velcro attach pad, taking about 2.5 inches of length out. Now it fits great and the Velcro strap does not stick out at all.

This fits the Kel Tec P32 very nicely. I put a Sig P938 in it one day and even with the flush mag, it was sticking out more and would more easily print.

But really, with a J-frame in pocket, it is nearly essential to have a BUG and the leg holster is a good place as less likely to be taken away from you in a scuffle. Assuming the perp gets my gun and does not shoot me, I still have a chance given an opportunity.
