The built in bipod is a good idea.
Kujo, just so you know, the built in bipod, while an excellent idea, (I always liked that feature on the Steyr Scout,) is next to worthless. Its center of gravity is too high, and it does not lockout.
The faux-1913 fore-end is probably a better option, while the plastitinny rail is not all that stable for optics, the underside of the fore-end is probably fine for a weapon light. A foregrip would be more stable than the built in bipod, but IANAL, so I don't know if the combo of a foregrip and det mag makes for too many evil features.
When I was living in Cali, I would have also gladly forked over the cash for an all metal-receiver, especially one that is easier to clean. The current design makes it impossible to insert a cleaning rod from the breech end of the barrel. Not that you are gonna damage the crown from overcleaning before the barrel is toast anyway, but breech-side access would be nice. (Then again you can still boresnake it with the current design.)
Still, for $600, it makes for a damn good AR-substitute for Cali folks, especially those of us who bought some 30 rounders last century. Kudos to Kel-Tec for giving us this option. Hopefully within the next few years, the Cali-cosmetic ban can be repealed, real Shall-issue can be in every Cali county, and RKBA can become part of Cali law. Till then, for plinking, SHTF, home defense, and camping, the SU-16CA is the best centerfire option, IMO.
