Is there such a thing as a Legal AR with a detachable mag in Ca? Is there really a way to obtain one?

IANAL, but here is my understanding...
My understanding is that, if you get an off-list lower, you have a choice. You can have a detachable mag (with a 10-round limit unless you have pre-ban mags; if you don't you can't buy them) but only if you get one of those ugly CA-legal replacement stocks that does not have a pistol grip.
You can keep the pistol grip, but only if the magazine is fixed.
Any CA resident experts, please chime in to confirm or correct...

There is currently an off list lower craze going on. If the mag needs to be removed with a tool like a cartridge tip some are considering it legal. Parts are being sold to support this. Go over to Calguns they have your answers its complicated and there are some butt stock options that eliminate the pistol grip that are DOJ approved and you can have a normal detachable mag.
Some estimates have the number of lowers that are detachable mag capable that have been imported in the last year or so to be around 30k. If you saw one at the range you would not be able to tell the difference.

Yes.. you have to use a funky grip or stock. For example, http://www.californiarifles.com/ or http://www.monstermangrip.com/
Keep in mind, none of these are "approved" or have the blessing from the CA DOJ. Building up a rifle using an OLL is technically legal if you follow all the regs, but you could still open yourself up to legal trouble if an overzealous cop or DA wants to go after you.

I like the Stock and now want to bild an AR with an off list CA reciever. where can I find one? What one to get?

I just go toff of the phone with Chris @ http://www.lanworldinc.com/index.htm. He can put to gether a CA legal AR. I will be getting on in a few weeks. Complete Stag upper & Lower, (NOT on CA list) , with a Monsterman grip, looks like a rifle grip and you can still have a detachable 10 round magazine. unless you already own or had larger ones.
