I'm looking for useful tips for a successful CCW application in California. (I am in Sacramento, which, I understand, is one of the difficult-but-not-quite-impossible counties in which to get a CCW.)

I have two specific questions:

I came upon a wesite advertising "Guns for Good Guys" - http://www.caprica.com/guns4goodguys/ - they are selling what they call the "CCW report" which contains info re: how to get a CCW in California. Does anyone have any experience with this group? (Understand that I am familiar with the basic requirements for CCW as they are outlined in law; I am looking for specific info which might make the difference between a successful application and one that is denied.)

Second: I am planning to take one of the Front Sight defensive handgun courses. They have a CCW course that you can tack on to the end for an additional $300. Anyone have any insight into whether there is anything in that course that would be worth an additional $300?

Re: "Guns4GoodGuys"

I've been slipped a copy. It is a poor quality and outdated guide to setting up a second address out in a rural county and scoring there.

What's lacking is an up-to-date guide to which rural agencies are worth talking to, AND info on how those rural sheriffs do NOT like such "second residency applicants", legal though they are.

Basically, to pull this off you must set up a rural address that's not a PO box or similar, and somehow generate a utility bill (pay for a second phone line in your friend/relative's house in exchange for using their guest bedroom a couple times a year minimum) plus set up your DMV address and voter reg out there. This is an involved process...and hence you shouldn't start unless you have some clue as to the policies of the jurisdiction you're doing all this in.

I've just given you WAY more useful info than is in that "report". And it didn't cost you squat :D.

See www.packing.org for good CCW info.

Another way is to set up a company by getting a business license and a fictitious name statement. Get a business checking account, then withdraw and deposit sizable amounts of cash periodically with no pattern. Use that, along with the packing.org info for your "just cause" statement. It's a surefire CCW in San Diego county, it will probably work there, too.

Sacramento is only "not impossible" if you are politically connected - which usually means donating to the Sheriff or being buddy with a connected politician.

Mere mortals need not apply.

I sympathize with you - I am in Sacramento as well.

We are selling our house in July and while I had hoped we would move out of here to TX or FL, we are going to move North to Yuba City (Sutter Co.) where we are both from originally.

Both Sutter and Yuba County currently have Sheriffs that are very pro CCW.

Move to Kern ONLY after doing some research. They have a new sheriff as of the first of this year, and we don't know if the traditional screwing of Bakersfield and other town residents will continue and/or whether the "de-facto shall issue on county land" will remain in effect.

El Rojo *knows* about this "town screwing" but doesn't like talking about it.
