I just got off the phone with the Governor's office IRT SB 2714 and SB 59 asking him to Veto both.

Took about 8 minutes to get through the menu and "Please hold through the silence" messages. A young lady came and took my info, didn't ask for name or where from.

I did ask her why there was no separate menu option for these 2 bills and she said they only put up the ones generating the most traffic. Not her exact words, but close.
I asked her if they were on his desk for signing or veto and yes they are ready for signature.

Best start calling and emailing and faxing request a veto on both.

Vick

Bill To Ban Online And Mail Order Ammo

New: AB 2714 passed through the Assembly 5-31-06! It will be heard in the Senate next.

Posted June 01, 2006

Make sure you look below and support your right to keep and bear arms. AB 2714 will end the sale of mail order and online ammunition sales in California. In a possible move to divide gun owners the author recently amended the bill so that it applies to pistol ammunition. All pistol ammo will require face to face ID checks for all purchases as if laws already on the books don't deal with this already. It's going to affect more than just pistols.

This gun bill needs to be stopped and preferably before it reaches the governor. Unfortunately it passed through the Assembly so the next stop is the Senate. Please pay attention to AB 2714 and contact your representatives accordingly.

and found this

SB 59
Summary: NRA opposes this bill.
Issue: FIREARMS LOSS/THEFT (Lowenthal)

Description: Existing law defines "firearm" and provides that for certain purposes, including certain offenses, "firearm" includes the frame or receiver of the weapon.

This bill would provide that the term "firearm" includes the frame or receiver of the weapon for purposes of the offense of failure to report a stolen or lost firearm.

Existing law generally regulates the possession of firearms. This bill would make it an infraction for any person whose handgun is stolen or irretrievably lost to fail, within 5 working days after his or her discovery or knowledge of, or within 5 working days after the date he or she should reasonably have known of, the theft of or loss, to report the theft or loss to a local law enforcement agency of the jurisdiction in which the theft or loss occurred or in which the person resides. The bill would require specified notices of this requirement to persons acquiring handguns after July 1, 2007, as specified.

The bill would provide that local governments are not prohibited from enacting ordinances imposing reporting requirements that are more strict than those specified in the bill.

Latest Info: 8/29/2006 - SB 59 has passed the Senate and is on it's way to the Governor's desk. The Governor has 30 days in which to make a decision about SB 59.

Dear Governor,

AB 2714 will end the sale of mail order and online ammunition sales in California. As a licensed collector of Curio & Relic firearms, I depend entirely on mail order sales for ammunition. Since these guns are relic firearms, it is not possible to purchase ammunition for them anymore in stores. Should AB 2714 pass, it will render my relic firearms essentialy useless. Please VETO AB 2714!

Sorry about that, I'm normally a bit more thorough on things. Old age and mown grass does that.

Want the Governor to veto both bills.

AB 2714 Ammunition sales
This bill would provide, subject to exceptions, that no ammunition or reloaded ammunition may be delivered pursuant to a retail transaction unless the purchaser personally presents bona fide evidence of his or her identity and age, as specified, to the seller of the ammunition and that the delivery container contain specified language. Violation of these provisions would be an offense punishable by imprisonment in a county jail for a term not to exceed 6 months, or by a fine not to exceed $1,000, or by both imprisonment and that fine, with increased penalties for 2nd or subsequent violations. The bill would provide that it does not apply to ammunition or reloaded ammunition that is rimfire ammunition.

Oh, great. So you mean you're okay with it as long as they make curio and relic ammo available in stores? Because that's what will happen if he heeds this message instead of the firm "this is a disgusting violation of our rights" it should have been.
