Calling All SIG Owners

OK,here's my opinion..I don't own a Sig,but I have always wanted to.2 days ago I saw one of these police trade in's for $529..a 226 I believe(9mm)....I can probably get it for $500 though(I know the guy at the shop)..I have little in the way of gun money these days, but this is affordable for alot of people who couldn't spend an extra $100 or $200 ..I say bring on the refirbs.....

I personally like the trade in guns. I've paid top dollar for NIB Sig's here in Maryland they aren't getting cheaper since we have the shell case and internal lock laws.

I have 3 trade in 226's and a trade in 220, I'm looking foward to getting a 229 in 357 Sig to add to my collection soon then another 220!

You oldtimers know this, so this is for the new guys. :D

NEVER, NEVER, NEVER, EVER trade your guns. In the gunshop where I work we urge people to sell their guns and put that money on the gun they want. They can sell it for about what the gunshop can sell it, so we have to give him a lesser amount so we can stay in business.

you would never see one of my SIGs for sale or trade. :D

I'm only a SSgt in the Air Force, if I buy a gun it's because I know I'm going to have it forever. That said, I love my P220/.45, P225, P228, P229/.357, and my P229-OIF/.40. I figure that if I can pick up a LE trade-in P226, I'll have that much more to put towards my P239 purchase.

Greetings, my buddy Dan: I have had 3 SIG/Sauer West German Pistoles; a 229, a 226 and a 220. I still have the last two. They are fine guns but the 229 I bought to be the first on my block to have the redoubtable .357 SIG. The two 9mm Parabellum ones are keepers. I think the refurbs are a good thing as the 229 I paid $700 for and that was too much, imho. $400 to $500 is more in line with their true worth to me. Of course you know I am a Colt 45 Automatic Pistol aficionado in my heart! Best wishes ole pal! :)

Greeting's Big G my ole' bud-

Sounds like you and I both got took on our SIG P229's. Mine was a .40
that I paid $760 for NIB, back in December '95. At the time, a major PD
in our area had just approved the .40 for duty; so I had to pay the price
my friend. Needless to say, I'm not a fan of the .40; sticking strictly with
the 9m/m and .45 ACP, in the form of a West German P228 and P220.

Best Wishes,
Ala Dan, N.R.A. Life Member

This pretty much sums it up for me; I have a CZ 75B in .40 S&W that is a keeper, but I'm no great advocate of the caliber. I just like the gun and its a good shooter.

Agree 100% on 9mm and .45ACP as the foundation for what works for me. Going slightly off topic here, I would throw in .38 Special , since I have the S&W Model 27 wheelgun that I love to shoot!

You know, I've been really itching for a P228, but could never quite get enough money saved...

Besides, this really beats the dumb*** practice of overly politically correct police chiefs ordering surplus/old/confiscated handguns turned into molten metal. What a waste!

Not worried about it at all, since I've never bought a new SIG anyway. ;)

SIGs (with the possible exception of 210's) are not collector's items, at least not to me. I'm going to shoot mine until it falls apart, and I suspect most people feel the same way. More refurbs simply means I might buy another one.
Holster wear won't matter to shooters like me.

Refurbs 'R' us

I picked up a nice condition P228 earlier this year. Only drawback I've had thus far is having to replace the Hammer spring due to light strikes.

Other than that, I say the more guns on the market the better. Especially here in MD where getting good firearms is always a hassle, and everythings 10-15 percent higher in price.

As for resale value being affected...

If I'm actually ever in a position where I need to sell a gun. I have way bigger problems then worrying about resale value.

I'll never sell the 220, But Sig flooding the market with trade-ins I'm ok with it.
I might even buy one :D A police trade in 225....I could happen ;)

:scrutiny: Huh? People sell SIGs instead of keeping/shooting them?

:scrutiny: Huh?

Don't you know that guns are not supposed to be sold against once they are bought, especially SIGs?

Everytime I have sold a gun, I end up regretting that I sold it in the first place, and I end up buying another one, for a higher price.

I never thought about the effect on trade-in value, since (like most here) I can't imagine trading one in. If anything, I'm for the Refurb program, since I'd like to get a spare P220 (for a lot less than I paid for mine when new), for taking classes and general peace of mind.

The refurbs usually dont bother me. I like the option of possibly owning one.

The only problem I do have with the refurbs is that usually the frame is chipped to all hell. Kinda ugly... heh, refinished slide, but they dont do anything with the frame. Kinda odd... eh?

Oh well, in the end it doesn't bother me a bit about the refurbs. Maybe I can convince a few friends to go get some Sig's together.

...yeah rite...

Somewhat off-topic, but...

...I personally know a gun dealer who routinely makes shockingly low offers to guys wanting to trade in absolutely fantastic, reliable firearms in almost factory-new or condition for no apparent or rationale reason. However, this gun dealer doesn't make this to take undue favour out of the trade but rather to shock the trader sufficiently that he/she decides to simply keep his/her firearm(s) and leave. The gun dealer bluntly told me that everyone still interested in making the trade despite the low cash in return "deserves his fate". The reason why this gun dealer reacts in this way is the fact that used guns are abound right know.

Some weeks agao, the gun dealer told me about a couple of unbelievable gun trades he made which make the persons accepting his offers to appear as the stupiest guys/gals in the face of earth...

Kind Greetings!

I don't have any problem with it if there is a pricing caste system like with the P7s. You have a pecking order for genuine M8s and PSPs, followed by a lower price level for genuine HK imported refurbs, followed by the bottom-of-the-barrel-price-wise Redmond Arms imports (though they are still excellent guns). If prices even out similarly for SIG PoPo trade-ins, I have no problem with it. The only problem is that the SIG trade-ins are otherwise unmarked, unlike the P7s, which are obvious.
