Came across a really nice range bag at a good price

I've gotten years of good service from the Wolf Small and Large range bags I picked up at a gun show for $10 and $15. I load 'em up with guns and all the ammo I can carry. Typically four centerfire pistols and 100-150 rounds of ammo for each in the small, and five or six .22 pistols and 1500 rounds of ammo in the large along with assorted tools and small parts for maintaining the plate rack.

They've held up very well.

I can't imagine what could make a range bag worth $70-$150.

Mine is a green OD tool bag from the army surlpus store. Sturdy as heck, stiff bottom, plus side pouches inside and out. Sure worth ten dollars.

Does it have any internal dividers or pockets?

Yes, and lots of padding everywhere. It's not that camo one; it's all black nylon. As I said, I couldn't find a direct link to it. I can take pictures of this one if you like. I bought one.

It actually looks a lot like this one carbuncle posted there, but a little different, and a bit bigger. Large with lots of zippered pockets all over the outside. It's got a completely removable inner bag, which in turn has a removable nylon "bucket" inside it, presumably for spent brass, and an adjustable (via velcro) divider. It's got two padded removable zippered flat liner thingies with soft fleece-like inner linings, which could hold handguns or other items snugly. Dang, wish Academy had it on their website - it's pretty cool.

It's marketed as a "Competition Range Bag" with the Academy Sports logo embroidered into the side of it.

To break it down, it's got:
-One large outer zippered compartment, with 8 inner subdividers for tools/magazines, and shotgun shell & rifle round elastic holders stitched into the inside of the outer flap,
-4 smaller outer zippered compartments,
-1 outer open pocket
-1 large main central compartment, with two side dividers, each holding one of the described removable liners for putting handguns or whathaveyou into
-inside that main compartment is the removable inner bag (would I would just carry separately - it has its own separate handles), which itelf has one large main compartment and two zippered side compartments, and the described nylon 'brass bucket' and changeable dividing liner
-everything is padded up real nice and overall it displays high quality
-padded shoulder strap and handles

EDIT: Holy crap, do I feel stupid....

It *IS* this same bag:

No doubt about it. Except for the logo and the fact that I paid $70 instead of their sale price of $40 - heck the normal price at Midway is just $60!

So, Nevermind [/r. rosannadanna]

Well, then, the MIDWAY bag at $40 is a good deal, I'd say. :) I have my receipt so I'll be taking this one back to see if they can match the price of Midway - Academy is usually pretty good about that.

Thanks and nice, SSJones.

This just happened:

Me: Hey these are $40 plus shipping at Midway, see? (showing him my phone with Midway site pulled up). I figure $10 shipping, for a total of $50, and I paid $60 here, so could I just get $10 back, or else I'll just return it under the return policy and get $60 plus tax back, and order it from Midway?

Academy Sports manager: No, sorry, we cannot price match if it's not the exact same product, and that one has the Midway logo and ours has the Academy logo - even though it's the exact same bag.

Me: Hmm, that's weird; you sure? Seems like the logo is irrelevant if it's obviously the same product?

Manager: Yup, sorry.

Me: Well, you can see that that makes no sense, right?

Manager: [Would not admit that it makes no sense; just said in essence, sorry]

So I returned it. Really weird that they have a policy which (a) causes them to lose their entire profit margin on the bag, less the $10 I asked to get back -- but still some significant profit, AND (b) causes ME to end up displaying a Midway bag at the range instead of one with their advertisement on it, AND (c) hacks me off to no end, making them lose a customer for life.

But hey, they're free to adopt the policies they wish to. Plus, Midway contributes to NRA with the roundup program, so I'm more than happy to buy from them. I am DONE forever with Academy Sports, between this and them requiring you to be 21 yrs age to purchase a dadgummed S&W AR-.22 or Ruger bastardized AR-10/22 thingie. Sorry for the sidebar - good bag in any event!

I admire your perseverance in returning the bag and taking your business elsewhere, I'd have done the same thing.

Those are nice bags. I have two of them, one for the gun range and one for the paintball field.

They are a steal at $40.

The range bag I use is:

Wittenberg bag I got at the gun show.

I use a Stanley toolbox, the kind where the top part attaches to a bottom part with wheels on it. I usually only take the top part.
